Hi,
bought the s1081 while some shops in germany promote this with the possibility for future update to windows 8. So I buy that thing. Suddenly, Windows 8 is released, no more wasn't heard from again. Does anybody in here has a concrete statement about Windows 8 on S1081?
Regards
WW

According too http://www.gigabyte.com.au/WebPage/104/index.html it is not upgradeable to Win 8
However if you can find suitable drivers it may work ok. Only real way to find out is to install and test with a trial version of Win8.

Hi
I have an S1080 with Windows 8. Which according to the site is also not supported. There may also be some youtube videos showing other users with the s1081 working. However the hard buttons on the left side will not work. The volume button will not work. Rotate will not work (at least not on my 1080). Once you get past those it's a perfectly good system for daily use.
So make a full backup of your system and go ahead and install it. Once you are willing to learn how to use Windows 8, you should not have any problems.

I've installed Windows 8 as a dual boot on my S1080 and it works fine, but you need to do a registry modification so that the apps in the 'Modern' interface work, as they need a resolution of 1024 x 768 minimum. I also recommend installing Classic Shell, so that you have a proper desktop (start button etc) like in Windows 7. The left/right mouse buttons work on mine and as I never use the hard volume buttons anyway, that they don't work doesn't matter. I also only use mine in landscape mode, so rotation doesn't matter. Everything else works 100%.
The resolution mod is here: http://www.clickonf5.org/14830/windows-8-metro-style-apps-running-on-low-screen-resolution-netbooks/.
Classic Shell is here: http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

I installed Gigabyte Smart Manager from the website and rotate now works, but it doesn't appear to enable the touch hot keys.

I can confirm that the hard buttons and volume buttons work, only the soft keys on the left don't work.

I'd like to point out one thing, which is that in the Modern interface, you cannot open two apps at the same time. To do that, you need a resolution of 1336x768, which you cannot get with the S1080/S1081. It probably doesn't really matter, but it's frustrating nonetheless that such limitations have been placed on devices.
