Title: X85A-Ud7 under warranty - Distributor refund 1/2 price ?
Post by: abe118 on November 09, 2012, 04:37:10 pm
Ok I am not from UK but there ain't a Gigabyte forum in Malaysia.

My X85A-UD7 (rev 1.0) failed to POST and I dismantled the mobo and took out the i7-930 CPU and found socket 2 pins broken.
Sent back to Gigabyte's country distributor and waited 3 weeks.

Called the distributor and they are reluctant to give an answer or it is the actual answers.
Final answers I received were the mobo is old and no parts. Principle offer to refund 1/2 the price of the mobo. My serial no starts with SN1007..45.

I am seeking suggestions from this forum members for a fair solution or does Gigabyte's rep on this forum has any suggestions ?

Anyone has encountered is situation ?

Hi and welcome.

Generally manufacturer's don't hold broken pins on the CPU socket as under warranty so anything you can do to get it fixed is a bonus. How did the pins get damaged anyway ?

The warranty of the motherboard runs for a period of three years from the date of manufacture. This is listed as a month/year code in the serial number. As I said though they probably won't repair it as such. I reckon if you can get a 50% discount then you could put that towards another motherboard. Something to think about anyway. Try contacting the Gigabyte office in Taiwan if there isn't any other locally and see what you can work out with them. The socket shouldn't be out of stock at this stage so that is just an excuse.

Since the mobo is > 3years  inception, that is certainly something to consider for an upgrade.

I will contact the distributor again regarding the "50% refund" on their cost or retail price - subjective !

As there is no direct RMA procedure, I will meet up the distributor regarding the socket's repair.

Will keep you posted later. Many thanks.

With the right tools the socket replacement isn't so difficult but time consuming. Thing is though if you have to pay to have it done it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Do please keep in touch though.
