Title: GA-970A-UD3 - RAM Compatibility
Post by: shugotenshi on February 14, 2013, 01:18:28 pm
Dear all,

I have recently purchased a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard, and was going to order a Crucial RAM - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3, but this has been out of stock for 3 weeks at the website I want to buy it from. The restocking date has changed three times, so I don't trust them anymore when they say that they will have more in a week.

I have a voucher for this website, that's why I am not ordering it directly from Crucial or from anybody else.

On this website there is a Corsair RAM XMS3 memory - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3, which after carefully reading the specs, seems to me almost identical to the one above. The only difference I can see between them is that the Corsair has a 1.65V as opposed to the Crucial's 1.35V, and the Corsair has a few features such as heat sink and dual channel, which the Crucial doesn't have.

Unfortunately on Corsair's online compatibility tool, the GA-970A-UD3 isn't listed at all, so I can't check it.

Does anyone think that Corsair's RAM would be incompatible with the GA-970A-UD3?

Best regards,
Shugo

I use XMS3 almost exclusively for all my AMD builds. I've never had a problem. Stable from the get go, and easy to clock to the 1600 rated speed.

To be more specific, never had a problem with the 970A-UD3 boards (1.0 1.1 &rev 3.0)

I have the exact Corsair kit on the 970-UD3 version 1.0.

With version F7 of the BIOS they would work only in the white slots in the others beeps from the mobo.
After updating to F8a BIOS they work in the blue slots too now.
It could have been a glitch though.

So just update to latest BIOS before.

They were ok with 890GPA-UD3 too.

Patriot RED Venom are great for this AMD platform as they have an AMD Profile programmed into them which you can select in bios and sets the RAM up for you automatically. These come  in speeds upto 2133mhz too.

I ended up going for the corsair RAM and have had no issues with it whatsoever!

I am having a different issue though, but I'll create a new thread for that!
