Title: Gigabyte 7850OC 2GB Zero Core fans turn on-off
Post by: Algotis on April 09, 2013, 06:38:02 pm
Hi everyone!
I use my 7850OC 2gb at defaults, and I noticed, that when it is on Zero Core, the fans turn off, then after a while they turn on for a few secs, then again shut down and so on.
I made a video to show the problem exactly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2yylHXNFKw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2yylHXNFKw)
I tried all drivers from 13.2 to 13.3, now 13.3 beta 3 is installed.
Is it normal from the card?
It is not annoying, but my friend's 7870 is working normally, his fans doesn't turn on, just when he moves the mouse.
My other components are: Intel i3-2100
ASRock H61M-VS
Gigabyte 460W Superb.
I only want to know if it is normal or not.
Thanks in advance!

woah! I think that has a faulty bios. video card bioses can be edited, I actually edited it in a way that the fans will shutdown at a particular temperature. Try using a video card monitoring program and overclocking tool like MSI afterburner. Edit the fan curve like 40% fan speed @ 40 degrees Celsius.. something like that.

if it still persist, I think you need to call your dealer and have the card replaced. Or if you want to check the bios if it was coded right.

My friend has az ASUS 7850 one and it does the same.
Another friend has az MSi one and this does the same thing too!
While my 3rd friend, who has a 7870 has no problems at all...

Sooo, isn't it normal?

Now that's weird. My friend has a club 3d 7850.. he never mentioned anything about such problems... is it really that normal? well I don't think it endangers the video card since the fans does turn on when there's gpu activity right? as long as the video card doesn't heat up to a significant temperature, I think you are safe. But better ask your seller to be sure... it might just be a faulty video card.

Yep, they turn on when there is gpu activity.
BTW i made a fan profile with msi afterburner, how can i reset it? By unchecking enable custom fan profie?

yep. try tweaking the profiles. does it still turn off? the minimum fan speed should be set.

It is doing the same, doesn't matter what is the set fan speed.

Weird. So that means it comes with the gpu I guess if it seems to be a common problem to all 7850 cards regardless of the brand. So the MSI afterburner doesn't help at all? Have you tried checking for a bios update.

No, because I wont update my graphics card's bios. I dont wanna kill my gpu...
