Hello All!
I have a fresh z68xp-ud3, that i have puts a RAID 10 (4x500gb) for storage and have a 256 Crucial SSD as the main C drive. But cant seem to figure out how to get it to boot from SSD
In "integrated Peripherals" i set the PCH SATA Control Mode to "Raid XHD"
Then i created my Raid 10, but during windows 7 installation my SSD shows as that i cannot install the operating system to it..
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks
Andy

Try running it off of the Marvell controller. Plus set it to AHCI too.

Im not sure what setting this is. Could you be more specific?

Hi AwesomeA,
In the manual of your motherboard, you see where are the connector for Intel Sata port ( connector via Chipset Intel).
http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z68xp-ud3-%28issd%29_e.pdf
See page 25 (Intel chipset controller)
See page 26 (Marvel controller)
Normaly, when windows is not installed, It is important to use connector Intel.
The Marvell 88SE9172 chip supports RAID 0 and RAID 1.
You are in situation with RAID 10 (4x500gb). Bad situation for Marvell.
Is not easy to help you ...
Wait, maybe other helper for you in forum.... patience....
In wait time, what is a exact revision of your motherboard?
Because he exist :
GA-Z68XP-UD3 (rev. 1.0)
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3892#manual
and GA-Z68XP-UD3 (rev. 1.3)
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3978#manual
See page 3 of manual for see how to find a Revision model.

EDIT001:
What is a exact version of Windows? Like a Ultimate 64bit, by exemple...
Marvell Preinstall Driver
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.
Have you use this driver on USB key?
He have too:
Intel SATA Preinstall driver
(For AHCI / RAID Mode)
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.

What I'm saying is use the Marvell controller for you SSD. Leave everything else on the intel controller.
The mavell connections are the gray ones. Plus I'll download the book and take a look at it.
GSATA3 Controller (Marvell 88SE9172 Chip, GSATA3_6 and GSATA3_7 connectors)
Enables or disables the SATA controller integrated in the Marvell 88SE9172 chip. (Default: Enabled) GSATA3 Ctrl Mode (Marvell 88SE9172 Chip, GSATA3_6 and GSATA3_7 connectors)
Enables or disables RAID for the SATA controller integrated in the Marvell 88SE9172 chip or configures the SATA controller to AHCI mode.
IDE Configures the SATA controller to IDE mode. (Default)
AHCI Configures the SATA controller to AHCI mode.
Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug.
RAID Enables RAID for the SATA controllers.

Ah, This is exactly what my ports are set as. My ssd and a 4tb drive is on the gray. Everything else 4x500gb/DVD drive is on the Intel ports/controller.
But when I set the raid up it was on raid setting. I will remove the raid and set The setting to ahci. Will the raid option be available in ahci?

The Intel and Marvell are different controllers. What I would do is disconnect everything but your SSD.
Install windows and than reconnect everything again. Just make sure you are booting from the SSD first.
That is after everything is connected. I install my OS on the Marvell controller.
Marvell Preinstall Driver: I would put it on a USB drive that way if windows does ask for it you have it.
Plus just make sure your Gsata are set to AHCI and the Intel are set to Raid.

Wonderful idea dmdilks. I will give that a shot.,
And, Gloup_Gloup (name makes me lol)
I'm trying to install Window 7 Pro 64
But as i said, the raid is on the intel, so maybe the issue isnt the raid then, but the driver for Marvell?
-
I powered down the raid, restored bios to default, rebooted went into bios and set the ahci. I loaded windows 7 pro install, loaded driver from disk BootDrv\Marvell\AHCI\amd64\mv91xx.inf
I get the "windows is unable to install to location. Error 0x80300001." But that goes away as soon as I place the windows disk in, but it still over all says "windows cannot be installed to this computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. make sure that the disk controller is enabled the computers BIOS menu"
Bios version is F10

Hi AwesomeA,

Is it asking for that driver? I just tested it on one of my boards. Just put in the Windows disk and boot to that. There is no driver needed.
-
It does not ask for drivers.
So this window will go away as well , or is it something to be ignored?

I guess ill try it in IDE mode. That seems to be the only option.
I will set it to IDE mode from AHCI.
Install windows
Connect the HDD's back up and try to install the RAID.
MAybe something is wrong to where it wont read my Crucial M4 265GB SSD?

Windows can't load to that drive that has a partitiion on it you have to delete that partition for it to work.
Windows doesn't like it when you have format the drive too. That is why you getting that.
Click on drive option bottom right corner and in there you delete stuff.
Disconnect everything again and than go in there and delete the partition on the SSD and than you can load windows.
