Title: new gPU /mobo compatability question
Post by: REMA1 on June 13, 2013, 05:20:31 pm
Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 (Rev 1.0)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3263#bios

hello I had intended to buy a Powercolor 7870 Myst (this is the hybrid between a 7870 and a 7950 and is based on the tathi chip)

but it states on it's FAQ that the mobo bios might need updating (card is UEFI raedy) and it needs to be a BIOS later than Oct 2012 (see second question in link)
http://powercolor.com/us/support_faq.asp

The last BIOS for my board was July 2010....is there a way round this...

Will I have the same isuue with any recent card i.e a standard 7870 a GTX 660/ti??

thanks :-)

In MY opinion they should work.
Ask Gigabyte support otherwise.

Bit of a bump I know, but Ive just upgraded my graphics card to a Radeon 7850 and it works in my GA790XTA-UD4 without any issues (using the latest official BIOS)
