Title: Gigabyte Z87M-D3H not detecting graphics card
Post by: ben_j_davis on June 23, 2013, 07:16:22 pm
Recently upgraded to Haswell - bought a 1150 mobo and cpu

The mobo is a Gigabyte Z87M-D3H

The build was going fine until I installed my MSI HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card.

The motherboard simply doesn't detect it. It's sitting in the PCE-E 16x slot with a Xonar D2X in the 4x

The on-board graphics is the only way I get the monitor to come on. The gpu is definitely working, fans are spinning, the PCIE power connector is on and the card is sitting correctly. The card does work as I tried it in a different PC.

I've flashed the bios to F7b (beta). Tried changed the PCI-Lan to different gens 1/2/3

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi ben_J_davis,  ;)

Please, check exactly your model of motherboard,
Check on the motherboard, near PCI-E slot or  near bank of RAM (slot of Ram)

In your manual, see page 3 for How to check a Revision ....

Add a web link about your model of motherboard.... please.

At this step... this model 787m-D34 do not exist....

If you remove Xonar D2X... the graphic card work correctly?  it is functionnal?

You can tell it's Monday.

Two mistakes. I'll update the original post

Hi again,  ;)

Now is more clear....

You have a GA-Z87M-D3H
GA-Z87M-D3H (rev. 1.0)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4486#ov

Manual:
http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z87m(h87m)-d3h_e.pdf

Question for you:
If you remove Xonar D2X... the graphic card work correctly?  it is functionnal?

Check in Bios, your parameters for Graphic card...

Internal Graphics - Page 51
Enables or disables the onboard graphics function. (Default: Enabled )
So choose Disables, for graphic card on Pci-Ex slot.

And page 50 check Init Display... (See I add a picture...  click on picture for more higher)
Set a parameter for graphic card on PCI-E 16 ... (put your graphic card on the slot PCI-E 16)

Return here with news about your situation....

Just asking do you have power plug into the video card?

So just an update:

The power is in the graphics card.

What I might try is putting the Xonar in the PCIE x16 slot and see if it works. Will try removing the Xonar card as well

When I disabled the on-board graphics, I couldn't get the monitor to come on at all. Luckily I found a small jumper from three PC builds ago to reset the CMOS.

The graphics card on the PCIEX16 slot is set as the first display

Cheers,
Ben

Ok, finally found the time to do more investigations.

I put the Xonar card in the 16x slot and there was no issue. The sound played fine.

I tried the graphics card in the old PC, just to be sure I hadn't damaged it. Again, all was fine.

This time I tried booting without the Xonar card installed - however, no go, monitor still refused to turn on.

I have to conclude, that this motherboard does not like my graphics card. There is no other explanation.

I'm going to send the mobo back and buy a different brand. The Z77 seemed to have a similar issue.

For those with a similar issue, please also check out these. The OCUK seems most useful.
