Title: BIOS update = unable to get stable OC.
Post by: worf105 on June 29, 2013, 10:51:31 am
Hi all,

In regards to this previous post (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,12715.0.html (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,12715.0.html)) I would like to try updating my BIOS to F7 to see if that feature is found that Vezina pointed me too.

Problem is that the last time I updated to F7 I was unable to achieve my OC that I have while using F3 (which is my current BIOS version).

I bought the Motherboard, CPU, Heat sink and 4GB RAM pre overclocked from Aria and I have added another 4GB RAM and changed the CPU OC from 3.8GHz down to 3.5GHz.

Will the BIOS F7 have this ESP setting and why am I unable to OC to my F3 version when using F7?

Cheers,

worf105

UPDATE:  Flash to F7 and now my eSATA dock works, but OC has gone.  Only way to boot is to cancel OC and use default settings Help needed to get back OC  Thanks

Could you let us know what your previous O/C settings (with F3 BIOS) were?

Cpu clock ratio: x14
cpu NB freq: x8
cpu freq 250
HT link freq x8
memory clock x5.33

CPU PLL volt = normal
DRAM volt = 1.500v
NB voltage = 1.35v
CPU NB VID = +0.15v
CPU volt control = +0.1v

I would try upping the CPU voltage a bit with other settings as they were to see if that improves things for stability.

I've giving that a go earlier but all I get is the black screen as in the Gigabyte folder found in the link at the bottom of my last post.

Don't understand why a 100% stable OC (over 2 years) becomes not possible after a BIOS update when all settings are set to the same as before.

Will try again with the CPU voltage but by how much shall I try?

Cheers,

UPDATE: I've upped the CPU voltages (up by several increments) each with a restart but the first 2 I got the black screen again with massage and the 3rd time just a long beeps and a massage, so no go with that.

Ok I've achieved the following OC now:

CPU clock ratio = x14
CPU NB Freq = X8
CPU Freq = 245 250
HT Link Freq = x8
Memory Clock = x5.33

DRAM voltage = 1.500v

Set my RAM to Manual with SPD values of 9 9 9 24

all other voltages are auto

POSTs Boots and runs fine, will test for full stability later.

Any other pointers or suggestions are very welcome and thanks again,
