Title: Issues with Gigabyte Download Center
Post by: RocknRollTim on October 20, 2013, 06:46:53 pm
Hi there,

I'm posting to find out whether anybody has and/or is having the same issues as me and whether anyone has found out any fixes to rectify the problems.

The issues I am currently experiencing with the Gigabyte Download Center are in IE10 but one issue has been reoccurring since we bought the PC (Zoostorm) at the end of last November or beginning of December and that is the Realtek HD Audio Driver not disappearing from the Downloads Page after downloading and installing the driver update and revisiting the Downloads Page. Below were supposed to be illustrations of the problems with descriptions but have been replaced with links instead, reason as to why I did this is in the paragraph at the end of the thread.  Reinstalled PC on 29/09/2013 due to component registry problems with Task Scheduler which were associated with the renaming of the main Admin account.

At first when clicking the “GO !!” button in the Gigabyte Download Center, the button isn’t responsive in IE9 and IE10 even with Compatibility View enabled and requires you to click the “If download center do not Function properly. Please Download Scanning element program Manually” to install InstallOBJ.exe component whereas in IE8 it prompted you to install the InstallOBJ.exe component with clicking the Information bar at the top of the window instead of at the bottom of the window, selecting Download, clicking Run > Yes to prompts and returns you back to the same page except when you clicked on the “GO !!” button immediately, it came up with a message saying “Please wait for DL program” in which you clicked OK and waited for component to register for a few minutes before clicking the “GO !!” button again.

However when revisiting the Gigabyte Download Center after downloading the InstallOBJ.exe component and initialising the Gigabyte Download Center in IE9 and IE10, the above message appears “This Driver can’t release to failure!!” after clicking “GO !!” Clicking OK produces the same message for another 3 times and produces the screenshot below.

Click “Close the program” and returns back to the same page saying that IE has recovered the page in the Information bar at the bottom of the screen in which you click Close.

Click “If download center do not Function properly. Please Download Scanning element program Manually” and you will be prompted by Information bar, click Run to install InstallOBJ.exe.

Click Yes to UAC prompt.

Click “GO !!” button to initiate wizard, produces “This Driver can’t release to failure!!” message in IE9 and IE10 whereas in IE8 it goes straight to scanning page, click OK.

On first use of the wizard, it comes up with the Download bar in IE8 to download the InstallOBJ.exe component in which you click the Information bar and then select Download in which the page refreshes and comes up with a UAC prompt, click Yes and wait for the page to load in which it’ll direct you to the downloads page whereas IE9 and IE10 go straight through to downloads page. However when returning to the wizard, IE8 prompts you to run the InstallOBJ.exe component in which you click Run and Yes to UAC prompt, IE9 and IE10 again go straight through to the downloads  page.

Downloads page comes up with all downloads related to the Motherboard components installed inside of the PC except it comes up with 2 of all, most of them exactly the same whereas some of them come up with different version numbers as illustrated in the screenshot above and below. Clicking “Click to Install All Drivers” and “Install” to each driver comes up with another loading page showing that the drivers are being downloaded and installed and return you back to the download page where the downloads are still present? Clicking “Save As…” followed by the Information bar prompting to Run or Save in IE9 and IE10 or to Download in IE8, if IE9 or IE10 click Run and then Yes to UAC prompt whereas in IE8 click Information bar, select Download, click Run and then Yes to UAC prompt and to follow instructions on screen to install each driver. Again when returning to downloads page it still says that I have got updates outstanding?

Please could one of the moderators notify the developers to improve the validation messages so that they make sense in the program. Are there any ways in which these issues can be resolved? I.e. redesigning the program completely

Also I have tried using another web browser such as the latest version of Google Chrome and the program wouldn’t work due to it being ActiveX based instead of Java plug-in based for non-IE browsers, would this be possible to do? Also can anyone please let us know of any issues surrounding the Gigabyte Download Center with other non-IE web browsers.

Also throughout the process I have been using both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE8, 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE9 and 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE10 have been merged together.

Are some of these issues historical i.e. have they been present in other versions of Windows prior to Windows 7 and in other versions of IE prior to IE8? Also can anyone please let us know of this.

Many thanks,

RocknRollTim

I have also tested the Gigabyte Download Center in IE11 on Windows 7 and the same issues happen again, I even followed the instructions to the tee on the website in IE and the same number of downloads appear in the list even though they aren't needed.

Well said, Tim. I have just been through the same rigmarole: tried using the Download Center on much the same kit - IE11 under 64-bit Win 7 SP1, and got the message Please wait for DL-Program. So manually downloaded and ran Installobj.exe, which appears to call Dllhost.exe for a few seconds. With no discernible result. Return to Go!! at the Download Center and that completes the loop.

Any chance of some help at Gigabyte?

Hi Andy W,

Glad to hear that someone has come forward with the same issue as me, I thought I was going to be alone with this issue and thanks for supporting me. I have submitted a ticket to Gigabyte email support containing the URL of this forum thread so hopefully we might have some answers as to why the Download Center isn't working as expected. I'll keep you posted on this when I get some answers.

Kind regards,

RocknRollTim

I just wanted to update everything before I get Beyond Earth as it supports AMD Mantle and  I have to say this is all rubbish. I get different version from DC and different from Gigabyte website. This is my first MoB made by the Gigas and I am really put of  by all of this.
Not to mention that I is not that easy to install it DC  :)

Hi guys,

I keep getting a response every Sunday from the Gigabyte email support to say that their developers are on the case, could be a long wait until I get a solution, however I'll still keep you posted of where they are up to with this case.

Actually so I've had responses from email support on 24/10/2014, 30/10/2014, 06/11/2014 and 13/11/2014 and they all say they are still working on my inquiry, sorry for the delay and we will keep you update asap. My post saying that they have been keeping me posted every Sunday isn't true.

I got it to work in IE 9. But I had to manually download the driver. Then I can click on the go. Will not work in Google Chrome.

But it will come up and say This Driver can’t release to failure and than it runs and tells me I don't need any drivers.

Yes they are having problems, but I don't put things on my computer that will do stuff like this. That is just me.

I have learn years ago that all those nice little programs that are out there are really a waste of time.  ;)

Yes it is nice that you can click on that and it will tell you if your drivers are up too date.  :)

I have been with Gigabyte ever since Abit closed. That is the first time I used the download center.

Plus the other thing is it is telling you this too, before you do anything. I check and I couldn't find it.

Microsoft update 912945 will cause conflict with GIGABYTE Download Center. Please remove Microsoft update 912945 first before using GIGABYTE Download Center.

Same here dmdilks I can't find the update to remove before using the Gigabyte Download Center either but I understand what you are saying about the Gigabyte Download Center though, it is a bit of an effort to use on modern Operating Systems especially how it is at the moment.  :)

Like I said before I don't tell people how to run they computers. I was the same way years ago. Ran all those nice programs that did all of that nice stuff. Today I only run one program.

That is one antivirus program Malwarebytes that is it. Now with updates I don't do them. I feel bios & driver updates are for people that are having problems. I have a saying "Don't Fix What Isn't broke".

I have a small problem with my computer no big deal. But it will BSOD here and there. I know what it is too. It is the driver for the video card. But I can't do a update because the newest driver will make my 39" LED TV look like crap.

The thing I don't understand is that Gigabyte has this Download Center and they didn't know they were having problems with it. Plus the people that do like using the Download shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get it to run.

No you are right if Gigabyte made this download center then it should work for everybody and any version IE, Google chrome & Firefox.

I don't know I work for Ford. The only browser we support on our end is Internet explorer. Every tech in the world has to use IE to access out site for Workshop manuals to wiring diagrams. It is a security feature and it takes a lot to support any other browser. 95% of people use IE so it is the main one we work with.

That's understandable autotech, I know both Chrome and IE can be easily locked down in organisations using group policies which are readily available in comparison to Firefox, I know this as we use these web browsers at work and trying to get group policies for Firefox can be a headache at times. I also use these web browsers at home.

I have to disagree with the IE. Most of the people that I know use some other browser. Most people jump off of IE after 7.0. I myself used IE for years. 8.0 was so bad at first that is why people just ran from it.

I still use IE here and there. But I myself change to Google Chrome because all the errors you get with IE. I have to take test every two years with Microsoft. If I use Google Chrome it will tell me that I really need IE 11.0. But it will still let you take the test.

I agree with IE not being the best web browser dmdilks but it is one of those web browsers that can be easily locked down using Group Policies particularly for enterprises, however I do understand what you mean though.
Title: Re: Issues with Gigabyte Download Center
Post by: dmdilks on November 19, 2014, 06:11:53 pm
Group Policies particularly for enterprises are maybe the only one that use it. It is all about support from Microsoft too with these groups. Plus I didn't know that Firefox has drop that much too.

Firefox is a nightmare for obtaining Group Policies dmdilk, I think it's to do with the fact it being open sourced and group policies aren't managed centrally unlike IE and Chrome.

I do have a laptop with Ubuntu on it and firefox it is for personal use and I use chrome also on my desktop but I cant view my work on either one. I think chrome is faster and more do able but getting the suits at ford to agree is useless.

Also ford has a contract with Microsoft over the Sync in their vehicles which might have something to do with it. The worst part is we have to use adobe SVG viewer which is so old it is funny to see our wiring diagrams and SVG viewer is not supported by chrome or firefox.

Hi autotech,

I'm sorry to hear your issue with Chrome and Firefox but are they on the latest versions? If not, updating them might fix the issue you are having. I agree that Chrome is faster but sometimes breaks when viewing web pages as well as Firefox both at home and at work and might be due to the fact that the cache needs clearing on each web browser to fix my web page breaking issues, both web browsers are on the latest versions both at home and at work.

Shame Ford can't their suits to work across multiple web browsers as well as Adobe SVG viewer but understandable why they have stuck to their approach though.

P.S. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I can view the main pages it is the wiring diagrams are made to use SVG viewer and no other browser supports it.  Ford I am sure could use a different viewer and I am not sure why they wont.

Hi autotech,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and I agree Ford could do with using a different viewer, however I have stumbled across this forum thread https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1086524?start=0&tstart=0   (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1086524?start=0&tstart=0) to support what you are saying.

Update

Just to let you guys that I have been communicating with email support for almost 3 months, at least one email per week and I'm happy announce that they will be hosting a new improved interface for the Download Center. They have asked me to give them feedback next Monday once the new Download Center has been uploaded onto their site, if any of you get a chance to look at the new Download Center please feel free to have a look and to give the development team some feedback on what you think of the new interface, there should be a feedback survey link on the page somewhere in order to give feedback.

Pretty disconcerning that this is STILL an issue a year later. Windows 7,8 and now 10 Preview all do this to me, GIGA needs to fix this.

It is driving me insane! I cannot believe this is still an issue. Win10 preview and every start up I get 2 "This Driver can't release to failure!!" What does that even mean? Can you put an even more vague error? Plus for ages I could not find out what damn program was putting this error up.
If I go to live update I receive two errors as well. What's silly is I downloaded this AND installed it again via the disc. I have no actual apps installed.

I believe I have found a solution. It appears to be one of gigabyte's apps called cloud station. I don't personally use cloud station so I had no issue with uninstalling it. I got this exact same issue with windows 10, so I set out to find this solution.

When you start up your PC and you get the error, press ctlr+alt+del and open the task manager. What I noticed is that the cloud station app was open. I didn't know if it had anything to do with the error but I decided to uninstall it and it worked. I also got rid of a few other of the apps I don't really use so its possible that one of those were the actual reason behind the error.

I'm sorry if you like to use the apps gigabyte offers but if you're just trying to get get rid of the error then from my experience this works.

I am having the same issue "the driver cant release to failure". After my PC boots and desktop screen appears, the popup is seen with the message "the driver cant release to failure".Even after closing the popup, it appears again and again.

I have bought a new one and installed apps and drivers from Gigabyte cd (GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H LGA 1150). I have Windows 10.

Any solution to this problem?

@Thraxan If you haven't got Cloud Station installed you will need to download it from Gigabyte's Download Page with either entering the serial or model number or selecting the product from the drop-down boxes, please could you confirm whether your problem is still related to LiveUpdate?

@Bhavin Welcome to the forum, may I ask you what the last app you installed from the Gigabyte CD? If you open up Programs and Features and put the programs in date or in modified date order you should be able determine which program causes the error and to uninstall it.

Hi! I also suffered from that "driver", that "can't release to failure"

I'm not sure whether this is a really good solution, but I got rid of the popup. This is what I did:

- downloaded the latest version of AppCenter, installed it
- copy ...\Gigabyte\AppCenter\ycc.dll to ..\Gigabyte\AppCenter\drvUpd\DLLs\ycc.dll overwriting the existing file (make a backup before)

Haven't had the popup ever since, though everything seems to work well.

Currently using FastBoot, EasyTune, SIV, V-Tuner and Live Update.

Can anyone confirm this?

EDIT: Does not seem to work for @BIOS, but who wants that anyway...

I too am having the same issue.  Which has resulted in me NOT installing the App Center software (for the time being)

I'm running a b85m-hd3  board, all the drivers have installed without issue.  But when I install the App Center, I get the error mentioned above.

Any ideas/ resolution ?

Another one here. Completed a new PC build with Windows 10. Installed the App centre from my CD that came with the motherboard and repeatedly get the same pop-up message, "Driver" can't release to failure". I got more than one on start-up. I was closing the messages and another one would immediately pop up, close it down and then another one would pop up again. In the end, I had enough of it and I uninstalled the App centre and all its associated other utilities that came with it. Since then, no more pop-up messages.

I thought maybe the App centre on the CD was out of date and was going to try downloading it from the official Gigabyte download page. I started a new thread asking for help in the direction of downloading the latest App Centre for Windows 10 but surprisingly, got no replies so I left it and didn't bother.

@BazingaSmith I totally agree with Hartley, its better to not install the App Center until Gigabyte sort it out whenever that may be. By the way welcome to the forum.

@Hartley Best not to install App Center for not now.

Problem has now been rectified for me after upgrading and reinstalling to Windows 10 with downloading and installing the latest drivers from the website as well as running the utility before and after installing the drivers, still had to go through the usual rigmarole though using IE11 but now comes up with a message on the page saying "No need to update drivers!" which is good. The utility is not yet compatible with Edge, I thought I would mention this. Problem must have been related to a registry issue.
