Title: G1.Sniper A88X: Where is the Wake On Lan option in BIOS?
Post by: darwusch on January 26, 2014, 07:43:11 pm
Hi,
I can not enable Wake on LAN in the device manager, the function "allow this device to wake the computer" is greyed out.
Mostly, this is due to a wrong BIOS setting. But which one?

Using the G1.Sniper A88X as follows:
Windows 8.1 x64 fresh install
Drivers from gigabyte: chipset and LAN

BIOS version F8a
ErP is set to disabled, otherwise it would never work.
It seems the WOL setting is missing in the BIOS...
(with ErP disabled, I would expect a "PME event wake" option to appear, but it does not)

Who knows how to enable Wake on LAN?

Hi,

Exactly the same problem here with a GA-F2A88XM-D3H. Tried a lot of realtek drivers too ???

Please help us out??!!

there's no option in BIOS to enable as it is permanently enabled.  you can enable/disable through your OS

Can you guide us which settings? Because the settings of the nic are tje same as on my GA-Z77X-UD4H and on that board it's working perfect. Thanks!

See attached screenshot to make it clear.
The onboard LAN is Realtek 8168 which has WOL.
Also I tried drivers from the Gigabyte site as well as from Microsoft and Realtek.
But it does not work.

Same in Win7 x64, see att in Dutch. Must be a BIOS issue.

click on the advanced tab and enable WOL magic packet and WOL pattern match.  then the tickbox will not be greyed out

Already tried the GB one and many others. Looks like we have to buy a pci-e NIC to get WOL working... >:(

Maybe for you it works because you have another cpu.
And are you using win 8.1 x64 ?

the cpu is irrelevant.

i've got win8 x64.

it also worked fine with win7 x64

We are not dealing with an OS dependent, BIOS setting or NIC setting issue. Root cause must be a incomplete BIOS by Gigabyte. I'm going to raise an incident/ticket with my complete configuration overview. If it can't be solved within a week, this board is going back.

that regkey come back with something completely different on mine, not nic settings.

also tried searching entire registry for one of the keys but couldn't find.

Have you tried enabling ErP in BIOS?

You can try removing the last digits, so only look in the key {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
It should give you the NIC settings though.

Yes, I tried also with ErP enabled, no luck.
It should be disabled for WoL to work, as stated in the manual.

i'll search registry again tomorrow.

never read the manual but ErP is enabled on mine and WOL works.  not sure whether gb know what they are doing

Guys, with BIOS F2B the WOL problem is solved. No more greyed out options and it's working like a charm. Thanks :)

Yes, I noiticed it too. (btw you mean bios F8b).
However, the support from gigabyte did not help, their reaction was simply "Our hardware team canĀ“t duplicate the issue."
But anyway, it works now.

OK good to know that you're issue is solved too. Gigabyte advised me to reinstall the os. I tried it 2 times on a fresh win 7 x64 and 1 time on win x x64 and still had the greyed out options. I have updated my ga-f2a88xm-d3h to latest BIOS version F6b. Cheers
