Hi
I have windows 7 sp1 running on GA-G31M-S2L rev 1.1 motherboard.
I would like to replace my C drive with SSD drive.
Can someone tell if SSD drives are supported by the motherboard ?
Is there anything else I need to check/upgrade/download ?
thank you !!

A SSD will run, but that board will only support Sata-1. Make sure you update the bios to F9.
Plus I would try and find a Sata-2 SSD if you can. A Sata-3 SSD you might have problems or you might not.

Thanks for your reply....

They say its compatible
What do you say ... ?
Can I clone somehow my old HD - or will I need to reinstall the windows 7 from the beginning ?
I have Acronis 2013 Image of my HD. Will a restore work or other method you can recommend ?
Many thanks !!!

Yes you can clone it. Plus how big is you drive you are using now?
Make a boot disk from Acronis. I do all my cloning from that disk in dos.
Plus here is a link for some tweaks on Windows & SSD. You don't have to do all of them.

Hi
my current C drive is 85gb
I never cloned using Acronis. special instructions ?
Can I simply:
turn off the desktop.
connect my new SSD instead of the current HDD
boot from Acronis CD and just run restore ???
will it work ?
do I need to upgrade my bios ?
it is currently F8 - date is 02/05/2009
thanks for help !

You can do it in windows. Start / Programs / Acronis / Tools & Utilities / Clone Disk.
Once in there it will give the option Auto or Manual. You can do it either way.
If you do manual. It will ask you the pick the source disk "next" Then it ask you to pick the Destination disk "next"
Then will ask how want to do the clone. Just pick the one that says keep everything the same way it is. "next"
Once it is done just shut down disconnect the HDD and if the SSD is the only HDD it should boot into it.
It might install some drivers for the SSD that is OK.
