Title: Niggly problem with Gigabyte ODIN GT800W PSU and USB2 on new Asus Motherboard
Post by: Davvo63 on February 15, 2014, 03:14:20 pm
Hi all

Windows 7 Home premium 64bit/Windows 8.1 Enterprise

I have used a Gigabyte ODIN GT800W PSU with a Gigabyte X58-USB motherboard and was able to access the monitoring features by plugging the data connector into a USB2 header on the motherboard. I have recently upgraded the motherboard to an Asus Sabertooth X79 and it fails to recognise the PSU when plugged into a USB2 header. The only way the motherboard recognises the PSU is by attaching an extension cable onto the PSU and plugging it into one of the external USB3 sockets.

I get the message unknown device (device descriptor failed) if it is connected to USB2 with Windows 8.1

I believe all the correct drivers are installed.

Has anybody come across this problem before and how did they resolve it?

It is not really a serious problem - I am just interested.
