Title: Frozen BIOS on my Gigabyte 970A- DS3P ( rev. 1 )
Post by: ndisic on May 11, 2014, 10:44:32 am
I need help with frozen BIOS on my Gigabyte 970A-DS3P ( rev. 1 ). When I try to access BIOS all the functions are non responsive. I tried to remove the battery, replace the keyboard and mouse, update bios with @BIOS utility and not worked. I also can not access BIOS with Q- flash, because it is frozen too. After restart and another try access to BIOS, I am getting half of blue screen, and another half is bios. Can some one please help me resolving this problem. Print screens is attached.

You are using the wrong hardware for your display. A UEFI BIOS only displays in a single wide-screen resolution. It appears your display is not capable of that screen resolution.

As for the controls in the BIOS, you can use the + and - keys to make changes. Some USB keyboards don't function until Windows is loaded so you may need to use a PS/2 keyboard.

Thank You both for your answers.
dmdilks , i tried to kick it, after it I get the screen attached. Unfortunately, It was not helpful, I get the same problem ( a part of blue screen, and another part of BIOS that is non responsive )
Tiger, I use both the wireless mouse and keyboard and PS/2 mouse and keyboard. They were both functional, but I also tried to remove wireless set and use only PS/2 set and get the same problem. My ViewSonic 24" display worked with no problem so far, I doubt it causes this problem. If I let Windows 8.1 loaded, everything works perfectly.

Before trying BIOS recovery i would check what happens with a different RAM.

Most probable the RAM you have may be going to 1T Command Rate by default ,this creating stability issues and as you are not able to get into the settings you can t set the ones you have , manually , to 2T or lower frequency.A vicious circle there.

Freezing in the BIOS can occur due to a bad IMC controller(BIOS incompatibility) as well ,this being integrated into the CPU.

You may be having some incompatibility over there ,swap components and see how it goes.

Are you able to run Memtest ?!

Vezina, thank You for Your answer. I manually set the timings in bios, because I wanted for my RAM to work faster ( 2000 MHz is supported with my AMD FX-6300 CPU ) and it worked just fine with 2T settings. Memory frequency is now set to basic by default ( 1600 MHz ) and 1T timing- i tried it and it was stable. Now my system is also stable and I have no issues with it, i checked all components with SiSoft Sandra. Is it possible that my motherboard has a failure?

Perhaps it is best to send the motherboard in the authorized service, obviously there is no other solution. Thank you very much everyone for your help!

Hello,
Are you sure this is not a graphics card memory problem? I have come across these types of issues before and it turned out to be a faulty memory module on graphics card!?
What make and model of graphics card are you using please?
Does your system boot to Windows normally?
Is it just the BIOS settings page that gives you the display problem?

Hi! I have Powercolor Radeon R7 260X, 1GB DDR5, Turbo Duo graphic card. My system boots normaly, at about 5 sec. , because I have an SSD. After that, everything works normaly, I do not have any issues. I am able to play Battlefield 4 at Ultra settings without any problem.

Thank you for your reply. Ok based on your GPU spec and performance you can definitely rule GPU memory module failure out!
You mentioned in an earlier post you manually set RAM memory timings. How were you able to do this without being able to view the BIOS settings screen fully please?
Have you tried BIOS fail safe settings?

Thank you for your reply. When I bought motherboard ( the new one ), I was being able to enter BIOS settings without any issues. After 3 months, I got the problem above. I did not change any of existing components, it just happened with any reason. I did not tried BIOS fail safe settings, how can I do that?

Guys, I feel ashamed  :-\ In the agony to almost  sending the motherboard to the service, I took off all USB devices, except PS2 keyboard. I tried to get into the BIOS and it worked!  I returned one by one and successfully entered the BIOS, all until I have got frozen BIOS again. And I found that it comes from analog Joystick that I was connected and totally forgot about it! Without it, everything works perfect! Thank You all for your help!
