Title: Single graphics card in PCIEX16_2 slot?
Post by: Emaku on September 07, 2014, 10:44:56 pm
I'm thinking about buying a GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 card but noticed the top pcie slot is the PCIEX16_1 slot for graphics cards. That would put my gfx card way to close to the cpu cooler. http://i.imgur.com/D4d6xvc.jpg here is a picture I found of someone else with the same problem. Can I instead place my single gfx card in the PCIEX16_2 slot?

I expect one of the following results.
1. It works great.
2. It's suppose to work great but because of bios bugs it doesn't work so well causing stability problems.
3. It works but at reduced speed. The PCIEX16_2 slot is also 16x but perhaps it runs slower there anyway for reasons unknown to me.
4. It doesn't run at all unless it's in the first pcie slot.

Anyone know the answer? I've seen similar questions here but the answer always seems to be, it should work just as fine in the 2nd slot... but it might not work as fine in the 2nd slot.

The answer is it should work just as good in the second slot as long as no other pcie slot is used for any other type of card unless it is pcie 1.
