Title: Creative Sound Core3D vs Realtek on Gigabyte Motherboards
Post by: MGW on September 30, 2014, 06:20:40 am
Hi guys, on my very old motherboard I have a realteak audio chip with 6 multi-coloured analog inputs. You're supposed to use them for multi-channel speakers but you can really use them like you want 'cause when you insert a plug in, the software in windows let you choose "what it is" and so I use most of them like "LINE IN" to get audio on pc from external sources (audio players, consoles etc).

G1.Sniper Z97 and GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 have a "Creative Sound Core 3D" onboard instead of a realtek chip (for example, Realtek ALC1150 is on Gaming GT and GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK). From pictures I see 5 golden inputs (not multi-coloured) and I'd like to know:

- Can I do the same thing with the Creative chip on G1.Sniper so I can use most of the inputs as LINE IN (or whatever I want)? Will the driver/software in windows let me choose, for every plug I insert, if it is a mic or headphone or LINE IN or LINE OUT etc.?

- Or I have to buy a motherboard with Realtek chip, like Gaming GT, UD5H etc. ? Will the realtek alc1150 let me do this like I used to do on older realteak ALC882M?

TL;DR
- Does Creative Sound Core on e.g. G1.Sniper Z97 support Jack-sensing / Jack-retasking functions / universal audio jack ?
- Dose Realtek ALC1150 on e.g. Gaming GT and GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK support Jack-sensing / Jack-retasking functions / universal audio jack ?

On the creative I can answer. It doesn't have a place to set them as what you want like you need.

@ MGW

You can go to Gigabyte and download any book for any mother board. That way you can look and what function you are looking for.

The only thing I see different is the older boards supported 6.1 & 7.1 vs the newer board is that they are 5.1.

Plus they took the line in and Mic and made that into one connection. The books don't really give you to much info but they do give basic info.

Thanks guys, it seems full jack-retasking is not a feature anymore on recent realtek chips.
