Title: G1. Sniper M3 SLI?
Post by: Amorelia on September 30, 2014, 09:44:31 pm
Hi,

I have a Gigabyte G1. Sniper M3 in an mATX case and an i5 3.4GHz CPU .  I was hoping to upgrade the GPU to 2-way SLI with the new NVIDIA GTX 970s.  However, I've read some reviews of the motherboard which indicate there may be problems with either running SLI at all, or with installing SLI in an mATX case.

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Should I opt for the single-card GTX 980 instead?

OK I have an answer to my own question.  SLI is not possible, because the PCIe 4x and 8x slots are the wrong way around!!  This means there is a double-slot which is totally unusable.  Even if there was an additional slot available in the case, no less than 5 internal connectors would be inaccessible without having to remove the 2nd GPU.

Not impressed with this design.  It might be possible to jury-rig some sort of riser, but this would be a clunky solution.
