Dear all,
I have a GA-990FXA-D3 motherboard and recently upgraded from Phenom II x4 955 (OC 4.2GHz, which worked perfectly for 3 years) to a FX9370.
I know the 9370 is officially not supported so I changed the clockspeed to FX8350 specs (and even 8320 specs), however it still does not run stable.
The bios is updated to F8.
On normal/auto CPU voltage in the bios it says 1.5375V, which is probably too high for the VRM's, eventhough I placed a big heatsink and two 50mm fans.
I have changed the voltage to lower values (from 1.40 to 1.525) but the computer still shuts down when trying to run e.g. Crysis 3.
It seemed to be more stable at higher voltages, but cannot say for sure.
Unfortunately I cannot find any good logging programs to identify the rootcause of the shutdowns (motherboard + cpu temperatures).
Offcourse it would be best to change back to a less hungry processor or better motherboard, but as I already have these components I would like to run with them (even with lower clockspeed, I got this 9370 for the price of a 8320).
I think other components are not relevant as they worked with the phenom without any problems.
Please advise.

The GA-990FXA-D3 motherboard does not support a processor with a Thermal Design Power of 220 watts.
The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is the average maximum power a processor can dissipate while running commercially available software. TDP is primarily used as a guideline for manufacturers of thermal solutions (heatsinks/fans, etc) which tells them how much heat their solution should dissipate.
FX-9370 - 220 watts TDP
FX-8350 - 125 watt TDP
Neither the FX-9370 or FX-8350 are listed as being supported. The GA-990FXA-D3 motherboard is an older model with limited support for AMD FX processors.

Ah, I think the 8350 was on the CPU support list when I bought de FX9370, could be it was changed?
Well, that probably means it really (also) cannot handle 125W 8-cores, I will have to get another board.

GA-990FXA-UD3 ver 4.0, GA-990FXA-UD5 ver 3.0, & GA-990FXA-UD7 ver 3.0 all of the boards will support the CPU.

Just for future reference.
The shutdown in gaming was in the end related to my 6950 crossfire setup (probably one card not connected/fitted properly).
The mobo/cpu is now running stable on 8350 clockspeeds at 1.40V (1 hour OCCT).
