Hello, I have since 2010 a pc with motherboard GA-H57M-USB3 (ver. 1.0, BIOS F8), processor Intel Core i3-530 @2.93GHz.
and memory 4GB by CORSAIR: TW3X4G1333C9A (XMS3, DDR3, 2x2GB, 1333MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V, ver2.2)
Recently I decided to upgrade my memory.
User's manual said that this motherboard supports 4x1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory. That means 4 GB max per socket.
So, I decided to upgrade my memory to a total of 12 GB, chosing 2 modules of CORSAIR, 4GB each. The model is CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 (XMS3, DDR3, 1333MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V, ver7.21). Although they are compatible with the motherboard, they did not work.
Today CORSAIR told me that the problem comes from the processor and not the motherboard. First generation i3 processors recognise only up to 2GB per socket.
Is that true? Since this motherboard supports the LGA1156 socket of first generation, if that was true, then the manual should say that mobo supports up to 8GB. But it says 16 GB. Why is that? I have made a purchase after following directions of manuals and compatibility and this purchase was proven wrong.
