Title: Z170XP-SLI : Unable to use all 4 Ram slots
Post by: nine_tails on August 23, 2015, 01:34:38 am
Hi,

Picked up this board with skylake 6600k. I have tested each of 4 dimms in 4 slots , seem fine. Dual channel seems fine as well. Just cant get the PC to boot with all 4 Rams installed. Updated bios to F4b , but no luck.

Any one have this issue? All rams are the same ,  Kingston Fury Black 2666MHz

Cheers!

Have you tried setting memory timings manually?
What does SPD detect them as?
Are to attempting any type of OC?

Please provide the exact model of your DIMM's

HX426...?

Hi Shadowsports!

The Ram is as follows : Kingston Fury Black 8GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (HX426C15FBK2/8)

No OC attempted, all settings on stock.

I assume you mean what is detected by the BIOS ? The system does not post at all. All it does is powers up, and shuts down and repeat. I dont get to the BIOS screen to get in.

Also I tried the following.

1. Each ram in each of the 4 dimms (single only) : Boots fine.
2. Dual channel : Boots fine for the following
     1. 4,3
     2. 4,1

Combination of 4,2 seems to fail though , but combination of 1,2 works. XMP profile is set to 1 in both memory and frequency sections. On unsuccessful boot the BIOS return to factor F2 version. I tried setting to XMP mode in easytune and the the system would not boot and had an error to revert to last know good configuration.

A thing to note  , SPD in CPUZ show xmp 2.0 , while BIOS shows 1.0 , would that be cause of any concern?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers!

I have the exacted same problem! But im using differend RAM:

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT - DDR4
16 GB : 4 x 4 GB - DIMM 288-PIN - 2400 MHz / PC4-19200 - CL16 - 1.2 V

EDIT:

After a long time of waiting the computer does boot again, and finds all the 16gb of ddr4 RAM. But while waiting the computer keeps shuting down and starts up again...

After shuting it down for a while it comes back with the same problem ( Shuting down and starting up all the time) and then for some reason it works again!

So something isnt working... Hope Gigabyte can look into this problem!

Based on your post, I wasn't sure if the system is randomly restarting or if you are seeing any type of consistent behavior.  What OS?

Have a look at the system event viewer.  Might be something there depending on what the issue is ?

Unless I missed something in your post, if the modules are failing in memtest they need to be replaced.
