Title: how to ensure that connected peripherals turn off when BRIX is turned off

Just bought a new Brix GB-BXBT-1900. It has 8 gb ram and120 gb SSD, running WIN 8.1
How do I ensure that USB connected devices [ext hd, usb hubs] are powered down when Brix is powered down using WIN shutdown?
