Title: Smart Update Question(s)
Post by: Mylo-s on October 04, 2015, 12:06:28 am
Hi guys,

I have recently updated to Windows 10. Initially, I downloaded Smart Update 2.5.9 (that was released at Win10 launch). The current one that you can download from Gigabyte website is 2.5.7. So... I decided to install 2.5.9.

Now, looking at the Drivers / Utilities Tab, the information on smart manager says that the current, official one to be downloaded, is 2.7.1.

I also noticed that there are some drivers that are version "ahead" of the Official Drivers.

Do you guys rely on this information and how accurate is it?

Do you use smart manager for updates?

Cheers,

M

Hi Mylo-s,
I'm sorry, I can't answer your question, but from a purely personal perspective, I never use any of the software apps that come with PC's as I have found them to be unreliable and in many instances they introduce more problems than they solve.

The old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." is a mantra worth remembering and in particular, when applying it to computers. Experience has taught me never to rely on software apps (even those from mobo makers) for updating drivers, bios etc., as I have learnt the hard way that things can and do go wrong. Things such as drivers and BIOS should only really need to be updated if you have a recognised problem, or if they add functionality that is lacking in earlier versions that you need.

Windows 10 is a work in progress and from what I have noticed on my own PC's and the ones I look after for others, drivers and a lot of software is playing catchup at the present time. Microsoft are applying some driver updates through the automatic update process in Windows 10 and in the majority of cases this is sufficient to keep your system running normally.
