Title: GA-Z97X-UD3H / i5-4670K clear CMOS but runs at 3.8, 1.2v
Post by: Kris44 on March 18, 2016, 07:01:34 pm
new mobo. for a while I ran it at +20% (3.5 to 4.3)(and Vcore at 1.2) the easy way.  Started having problems with video and set it back to default. Finally took battery out and cleared CMOS and set optimal.  But freq stays at around 3.800 and Vcore about 1.2 even though they are both auto.  (The prob turned out to be my 650 vid card, now replaced.) But wondering why this is running high.  Have not tried to run +20 again yet...

Greetings,
Haven't looked at your CPU specs specifically, but in general, we have seen issues with stuck OC, Vcore and memory values when OC is performed using EZ Tune and/or Extreme Tuning Utility.  Are you seeing these values in BIOS > MIT after CLR_CMOS or are you reading them from the OS after boot?

Thanks!
i5-4670K

in BIOS
I modified only in BIOS MIT:
adv freq / performance upgrade / 20%
adv voltage settings / CPU core voltage control / CPU Vcore / 1.20

I am using BIOS F9 on my GA-Z97X-UD3H ver 1.2

Both settings show "Auto" now.

Kriss44,
Your CPU runs at 3.4>3.8 with turbo boost.

I'm running i7-4790k

Base clock 4.0
Turbo 4.4

Vcore 1.276

Everything is AUTO

Temps Idle
22c CPU
33c motherboard

so how did I set turbo boost without knowing it?  Is that in BIOS? (got a big d/l going - I'll check in an hour...)

EDIT: yes I found turbo boost in advanced CPU core settings in Advanced Freq Settings.  It was set to auto.  Apparently when I first got the board it was set to disabled.  I set it to disabled and Performance Upgrade to 20% and Vcore to 1.20 . Also set liquid cooler to FAST and top exhaust fan to FAST.  That Vcore might be a little low but I'll run with it for a bit and see.  Thanks!!!!!!!

EDIT: just ran Heaven on Linux for 1 cycle / Ultra / hi tess / etc and CPU core temp did not go above 59 and was mostly on 45-50, and rock solid stable.
