Title: M57SLI-S4 rev.2 16gb ram not working
Post by: Roman Calin on August 25, 2016, 11:24:07 am
M57SLI-S4 rev. 2
Bios Version: FG

Socket M2
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
ID: 32 0F 04 00 FF FB 8B 17

vga: NVIDIA Corporation G86 [Quadro NVS 290]

Psu: Termaltake TWV 500 Watts

so i have 2 problems:

a) i have 4 ram modules:

2x512GB 3 and 4 slot
both:
Kingston KVR
9905315-060.A01LF   KVR667D2N5/512
2962452-0249565      1,8V

and
2x2Gb 1 and 2 slot
both:
Kingston KVR
99P5471-013.A00LF   KVR800D2IV6162
00000065647648      M5JK6-R06M7C-3V996

if inserted in 1 and 2 slot 2x2gb ram, and in 3 slot one: 512mb, pc work

if to add 4 module 667/512mb in 4-th slot Mother Board beep showing ram error

i tried to change ram modules in 3 slot inserting different 512mb modules to check if one is broken, but pc starts with any of them, but not with all 4 ram modules inserted.

ă) recently i buy 4x4gb ram modules:

MT36HTF51264FY-800E1 2015112 CBND2NG002
COUNTRY OF UNATED STATES
4GB 2xR4 PC2-6400U-800-12-E0
4GB, DDR2, 800
seller say that these ram have CL 6

if inserted 2 of them pc starts but after login in 1-2 minutes freezes
if to insert all 4 modules, Mother Board beep showing ram error.

So my main question what type of memory to buy to have 16gb ram installed and working?

1) Your board is from anno 2007  ::)
2) I would never intermix different ram sizes even the manuf. is the same

The best bet to make it working is all 4 ram slots same size/ same batch!

However, there are a lot of boards out there with full banks causing trouble due to bad ram timing settings or just bad ram slots which never worked. The modern mobos have the (auto) XMP feature which selects the ram timing automatically and it works out of the box.

...and your latest ram set seems not compatible or faulty - which manufacturer is that?
Stick to the brands listed as compatible with your mobo.

what was the original ram when the board worked fine?

However, I would not waste my time with such an old board - get sumthin' contemporary!

Hi there,

not sure if this will help resolve your issue but, the last available BIOS for your motherboard is version FHm which you can find a link for in this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=7846.msg62167#msg62167

You can update the BIOS to this version, using QFlash and see if that helps.
