Title: Z170XP-SLI & G.Skills 2x8GB Ram problem
Post by: waterhill on December 25, 2016, 02:22:51 am
I just built a new computer:

6700K processor
Z170XP-SLI Motherboard (F6 bios)
Zotac GTX 1080
G.skills 2x8GB Ram (F4-3200C16D-16GVGB)

I first tried to run the ram in dual channel mode (slots 1&2) and it would not POST.  I then removed the ram and only ran one stick in slot 1.  It booted, I enabled XMP.  rebooted... I could only get a second stick to work in slot 3 (so slots 1&3) and it is in single channel mode.  The 16GB Ram works great... I'd just like it to be able to run in dual channel mode.

If I put a single stick in slot 2 or 4, it won't POST.  beeps 5 times, reboots after 10 seconds.... continuous cycle.

After looking at the compatibility list I didn't see my RAM model listed.  Despite not being listed, the ram works fine in slots 1&3.

Should I return this RAM or is there something I can do to force it to work?

Have you tried them in 3 & 4 or 1 & 4? You can run it in 1 & 2 or 3 & 4. Plus check to see if you have any bent pins in the CPU socket.
