Title: GA-Z170X UD5 long reboot delay with latest BIOS
Post by: merc68k on March 10, 2017, 01:19:36 pm
Hi all, I flashed the latest BIOS (F21) for my Z170X-UD5 and it's working well, except that now there is a good 10-15 second delay when I reboot before the BIOS splash screen reappears.  Before the update this was no more than 5 seconds.

Has anyone else run into this?  Is there some configuration that I can change to reduce the delay?

I also noticed that I can't seem to downgrade to even F20, I know that on the download page they say that F20 disallows any previous versiohn to be flashed, but F21 should allow F20 I would think.  Any image I ask it to flash it just says "Can't read file".

Any ideas?

Greetings,
Once you upgrade to a BIOS that states you cannot downgrade, you can't go back conventionally..  not even one revision.

Use this method to downgrade if you wish...

Do not downgrade to F20...  this BIOS has been problematic and horrible...  has caused nothing but headaches for people.

Oh, thanks for that link.  At least I could go back to the previous generation BIOS if I want.   Thanks for the tip for F20 as well, in theory I should be able to flash that without issue but I'll avoid it if it's buggy.

As for the reboot delay, it doesn't always seem to occur which is a bit strange, maybe it's a bug and there will be an update to fix it...

Do you gigabytes Off/On charge installed? When I built my pc I had similar issues as you. I saw on the web this might cause some problems. I uninstalled it and have not had a recurrence since. Hope this helps.

TFisher makes a good point.  These types of utilities can add to boot time (not always, but yes in some cases).  I'm only using App Center and SIV, and nothing, except windows is set to update on its own.
