Title: Does GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 (1.0) support Win10 64-bit and latest graphics card?
Post by: gpanoutsos on April 21, 2017, 01:39:01 pm
Hi all,

My PC specs:

Motherboard: GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 (1.0)
BIOS Ver: F10
CPU:   Intel Core i7-2600K
Operating System: Win 7 64-bit (about to upgrade to Win 10 64-bit)
Memory: Corsair (16GB)
Memory Part No.: CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9

I'm planning to upgrade my current AMD Radeon™ HD 6850 Graphics card to a latest model (more specifically GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti OC 4G = GV-N105TOC-4GD), swap my HDD with Samsung 850 Evo 500GB and install Win 10 64-bit. My questions are the following:

1. Has anyone else that owns this MoBo (since it is a rather old model) upgraded to Win10 64bit and, if yes, what is your experience? Is everything working flawlessly?

2. When performing the first clean installation of Win10 64bit should I choose AHCI or IDE Mode in the BIOS settings (I believe that I should choose AHCI)?

3. Are there any other BIOS settings I should tweak for optimum performance?

4. I have read in various internet forums that current generation graphics cards require UEFI BIOS in order for the system to boot and operate properly but I have failed to reach a definitive conclusion on the matter. If yes, am I forced to update to the latest version U1E (UEFI BIOS) that has been RELeased for my motherboard in order for the GTX 1050 Ti to work properly or it won't work anyhow?

5. Are there any issues with this BIOS version (I have read that some users have experienced problems with the onboard sound card) since it is a beta one? Do you recommend to update to this version?

6. Has anyone else that owns this MoBo used it with a Radeon™ RX 460/470/480 or a GEFORCE® GTX 1050 Ti/1060 with BIOS version F10?

Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for your support,
Giorgos

General feedback...
I have a (Asus) z68 gen 3 rig running Win 10 x64 (SandyBridge 2600k CPU) with a GTX 660.

Card compatibility:
SandyBridge CPU = PCIe 2.0 Spec (you)
IvyBridge CPU = PCIe 3.0 Spec

Negligible performance difference between 2.0/3.0.

1. It was an upgrade to 10, no issues.
2. AHCI (for sure) :)
3. This will depend.  Stick with F10.  Only upgrade to U1E if absolutely necessary.
4. It will work, you may have to select Gen2 for GPU Option (not Auto)
5. Stay at F10
6. Can't speak to this sorry.  I'm a gForce guy.  Although I have owned several Sapphire and HiS Radeon cards...  gForce drivers have ALWAYS been less buggy and more stable in my experience.  YMMV  ;)

Gigabyte's 1050Ti is a nice little card.  Twin fan, it will be quiet, but be sure you have good front to rear airflow through your case.  Not sure where you are... Newegg has it for $149 with a $20 rebate.
