Windows 10 includes drivers for all of the components on the P55-UD4 mainboard.  After OS install, I would install latest intel chipset .inf utility and allow windows update to pull the latest drivers for any newly detected components.

There is no benefit attempting to use an m.2 drive with this board.  Its not natively supported in BIOS.

If you install the adapter into the second PCIe slot, it will force the GPU to run at x8 or may not allow the adapter to run as a boot device at all.  The other slot is PCIe x1, so your m.2 (whether x2 or x4) will only run at x1, and less so again since the board is only PCIe 2.0 spec.

Consider installing a standard 6.0Gb/s SSD which will run at 3.0Gb/s, will not interfere with GPU and will work as a boot device with certainty.

Thanks for your help :)

So I just need to install the intel chipset .inf, does Windows update read it and download the necessary updates?
Where can I download this inf file?

ok for M.2 :(

Can you recommend an SSD that works well with my motherboard? (max 100 euro I use it only for install the OS)

Thanks!  I'm inexperienced by Computer

Click, accept terms (bottom of page), unzip and run.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-?httpDown=https%3A%2F%2Fdownloadmirror.intel.com%2F20775%2Feng%2FChipset_10.1.1.42_Public.zip

Samsung 850 EVO or Pro 120GB.  (Either is good).  You'll also be able to use this in another system moving forward.

EVO currently $80.50 Euros
Pro $100 Euros

Cable 6Gb/s $1-2 Euros.  The drive will run at 3.0Gb/s  ;)

Review Device Manager.

If you don't have any missing devices, (red x's, or yellow "!" you are fine and W10 has installed the drivers your system needs.

Optionally, you can try the Intel Driver Update Utility which scans and updates missing drivers for you automatically.  But its probably not needed unless you have something you can't find a missing driver for.

An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft VC90.CRT, version..........."

no red or yellow missing device but is very strange all those error :(

Its an old board and most if not all of the drivers written for this chipset ended with windows 8.  If your Device Manager is "clean" you're good.

Don't know if you work for Gigabyte, but can you help me for find a new motherboar Gigabyte that is compatible with my hardware? I want change it for install an M.2 Hard disk. No overclock and no gaming Max 150 euro. If you can help me, thanks :)

My hardware is:
GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD4 (Intel Socket 1156)
Intel Core i7 LGA1156 i5-860
Radeon Sapphire HD 4770
RAM: 8 giga OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum

I don't work for Gigabyte.  Just an end user like yourself.

For this support, you are looking at a new MB, CPU and memory...  can't be done for under $150 euros..  (Unless you find it used)

Don't know what kind of m.2 you have (brand, model, spec)

You are looking at a platform upgrade either way.  While I recognize your budget, there just isn't enough wiggle room to move gracefully to m.2 support which is why I recommended standard SSD.

Then i thank you twice for the help you are giving me :)

I got an idea, I gave up on M.2 and stayed on the normal SSD. But i have the problem that I have all 6 motherboard SATA slot occupied so I have to find a card that adds 1 HD SSD, or an adapter that converts my IDE into SATA. Can you help me please?

Hi,
You can use this card

For m.2 Ssd

Or traditionnal sata

I would like to buy components that I can reuse when I change my motherboard. So the board for the Sata seems useless, but shadowsports told me that the M.2 card will not fit and will not let me boot. Always if I understand well, my English is bad. I'm confused :(

and, are you sure there is not a new gigabyte motherboard that is compatible with my RAM/processor and video card and that it is also compatible with new components if I decide to upgrade? Did the sochet change? Have ram and video card slots changed? Sorry but did not hit the hardware world

What lepiaf37 didn't take into consideration is what I mentioned above...  the adapter card will

a) Reduce the speed of your primary PCIe slot from x16 to x8
b) Only operate at x1, PCIe Gen 2.0

Regarding re-use of your components.  Your Lynnfied CPU is over 8 yrs old and only supports 1066/1333Mhz memory.

Socket 1156 processors were P55/H57 chipsets.  Example below:

Because of its age, there is no upgrade (swap) option. I suggested a standard SSD because it is compatible with a greater number of boards.

If you decide to stay where you are, then I would consolidate.  Buy 1 bigger drive (dump two smaller disks) and add the standard SSD as my boot drive.  Since you said all of your SATA ports are currently in use.

Ok, unfortunately you are right :)
Can you recommend a card with 2 SATA slots, possibly on Amazon? The one who kindly advised me lepiaf37 costs almost 50 euros :(

Once again...  I want to bring the following to your attention. Only the x16 and x8 slots on the board have more than 1 PCIe lane available.  If you populate the x8 slot, it cuts the performance of your x16 (GPU) slot in half.

If you use a x1 SATA adapter card in a x1 slot, you have one lane for bandwidth.  If you connect only one disk, you will get 250-400mb/s.  If you connect 2 drives >- one lane = you will only get 1/2 this performance.

This asmedia 1061 x1 card should work.  I would not connect my boot drive to this card.  The best performance would be if only one disk is connected.

At this point you are stretching the resources available on this platform to the extreme.  Good luck with your upgrade.
