Title: GA-Z270-Gaming K3 fan sensors
Post by: haxzion on April 25, 2017, 04:49:28 pm
I own a GA-Z270-Gaming K3 and im having a minor issue with it...
When i start up my pc the fans ( case and cpu) operate as they should and i can monitor their speed with any hardware monitoring software, but if i sleep my pc and then wake it up (usually after 30mins) fans operate at full speed and their values wont show up on any hardware monitoring software.
After restarting everything goes back to normal...
I have changed 3 bios versions including stock still no change...

OS: windows 10 x64

Please provide your full systems specs.  ALL devices.

Tell us about the fans you have plugged in.  Are they 3 pin or 4 pin.  What headers are they connected to?  Are you using splitters of any sort?

Do you have any fan profiles set in BIOS?  Are you using Fan Expert 5 in the OS? (with profiles?)

Are you using ANY fan management software..  over clocking utilities for CPU or GPU?  Afterburner, SpeedFan, Precision, etc?

Can you confirm that all devices in Device Manager are detected and installed correctly? The more info you can provide, the easier it might be for us to help.

I don't use any splitters, fans are directly connected to the board and i'm not using any fan profiles in Bios or any software, stock bios settings. All devices are installed and i have zero issues with my build except this minor one.

cpu_fan  BE QUIET! DARK ROCK ADVANCED 4pin
cpu_opt  BE QUIET! PURE WINGS 2, 120MM 3pin
sys_fan2 BE QUIET! PURE WINGS 2 PWM 140MM 4pin
sys_fan3 BE QUIET! PURE WINGS 2 PWM 140MM 4pin

Unplug the 120mm connected to cpu_opt header above and restart,  test operation after resume from sleep.

i removed all fans except cpu and same thing happens..
Then i tried something else,i entered bios and changed the control option of all fans (except cpufan) from auto to voltage and the cpu fan from auto to pwm..I did a couple of sleep/wakes no problem so far but if it happens again im thinking of RMA...what do you think?

Greetings,
Start with just the CPU fan connected to the CPU_Fan header.
In BIOS Load Set Up defaults.  F10 to save and restart.

Enter BIOS again.  MIT > Smart Fan 5 Settings
Monitor > CPU FAN
Fan Speed Control > Normal
Fan Control Use Temperature Input > Do not change
Temperature Interval > Do not change
Fan/Pump Control Mode > Auto
Temperature > Displays the current temperature of the selected target area.
Fan Speed > Displays current fan/pump speeds.
Temperature Warning Control > Disabled
Fan/Pump Fail Warning > Disabled

Only change what is needed for the machine to start (nothing more), then F10 to save and exit.  Allow windows to boot.  Now restart (warm boot) after the desktop loads, put the machine to sleep.  Wait 10 min and wake.  What are the results?

Already tried it with just the cpu fan connected and still it happens.
After wake cpu fan value disappears from any monitoring tool and it spins at full speed...

I have a spare SSD i will clean install Win10 and bios reset again. If this keeps happening can i RMA the board?

I'd open a ticket requesting RMA.  You may get an updated BIOS which is likely the problem.  Open a case and see what they say.  Be sure to include all troubleshooting steps you performed.  They might have other options.

I believe i figured it out.The culprit was "fastboot".I disabled it (just like default) and problem gone.
Maybe someone from Gigabyte will read this and fix it with a bios update.

From above:
Fast and Ultra Fast Boot are disabled by Default.  Loading Set Up Defaults should have revealed the fix.  Glad you figured it out.

F6 bios seems to work fine while F7 bios has issues with XMP memory profile and sometimes will not post.
I guess i will stick with F6 then.
