Title: upgrade of graphics card

I have a Gigabyte 7N400 Pro 2 motherboard with 1 Gb memory, fitted with a nvidia FX 5600 graphics card in the AGP 8X slot .  I would like to upgrade to the nvidia 6600GT card. These are readily available on ebay at a modest price, and come in PCI Express and AGP fit.  I don't know if my board's PCI slots support Express....am I ok going for a straight AGP replacement, and could there be any problems ? Any help appreciated......Al ( retired mechanical engineer slightly out of his depth )

Your system has AGP, so therefore no PCI-E slots. PCI is not cross compatible with PCI-E, the only variant of PCI is PCI-X which is two PCI extended, and PCI-X is not PCI-E.

What is the rest of your system? AGP is very aged, it might be worthwhile upgrading to a new system, as you have limited options after that. Newer games with DX10 may feel unplayable. I would consider going for a new motherboard/cpu/ram/gpu upgrade, but the economic downturn may not be in your favour.
