Title: GA-MA790FXT-UD5P and Patriot memory
Post by: jallis71 on April 23, 2009, 10:45:52 pm
I just bought a GA-MA790FXT-UD5P MB and I used the memory list on Gigabytes website to purchase memory that I thought was going to be compatible. I purchased Patriot PVT26G1600LLK (3X2gb). Started doing some checking and found that this memory is for the Intel I7 motherboards not AMD. Can just 2 of the 3 module kit be used or am I SOL?

Hi

the triple memory kit you bought is for 3-channel mobos like for i7 CPU, correct.
of course you can use 2 out of 3 memory sticks.

pls mind your Patriot PVT26G1600LLK is not listed at memory list (QVL):

I bought PVT36G1600LLK which is listed, my mistake. I ended calling Gigabyte and was told I can use all 3 but it will not run as Duall Channel.I am trying to see if Patriot will sell me one matching module so I will have four.

You should be able to pick up another stick, you could try ebay or elsewhere too.
