Title: GA 170X G3 CPU i7 8086K support
Post by: pendaws on June 12, 2018, 06:13:58 am
With all the reviews and ads about this new CPU, are MBs like G170X going to get a BIOS update to support this? or, will it be only supported by the later G270 and 370 boards? The last BIOS update for the G170 board was March this year.

I have looked at BIOS updates for the G270 and 370 and can't see any? also, there is no NEW listing for CPU support in these newer MBs either.

Greetings,
I'd like to be wrong..  but am willing to bet these CPU's will only be supported on 300 series chipsets.  While there could be some support for them on previous generations, you will not realize the true benefits of the chips unless you use in conjunction with a 300 series or better.

The Z170 will be 3 yrs old in August.   The Z270 is 1.5 yrs old now.  Development timeline is 15-18 months in general.  Unless you are going to update your board, I wouldn't invest with the hope of support.  You are looking at 6th gen vs. 8th gen support.  Might not even boot.

Thanks for the reply. I was just asking for one of my customers, I told him that this answer would more than likely be how it was but, I asked. :)
