Title: Parallel Port
Post by: Atomic_Sheep on July 30, 2018, 12:46:01 pm
I'm planning on buying either H370-HD3 or H370M D3H motherboard. I'm going to need a parallel port at some point and was wondering whether these motherboards' parallel port support EPP? There's obviously a parallel port header on the motherboard and I'm just wondering if I simply add a flat cable I'll have EPP functionality or do I need to buy a specific parallel port card that supports EPP?

Greetings,
Yes, both boards have a parallel port header.  Something like this will work.  There is nothing about EPP/ECP listed in BIOS, but these might appear if you connect something to the header.  What kind of device are you connecting?

A CNC controller. Apparently it needs EPP enabled in BIOS. I bought a PCI addin card but it was for a 32 bit system only (gotta always read everything :)). I think something like this would work these days if the parallel port on the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't support EPP:

Looks like these addin cards require a larger header than the smallest PCI slot, so I guess should fit in to:

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)

If there's no EPP on the default board that is.
