Title: Ga-a320m s2h V2 strange fan behaviour bios F40
Post by: robmcc83 on June 21, 2019, 09:17:02 am
Hi.
The latest bios update for the motherboard has strange fan behaviour.

All other bios versions have worked fine up until the latest one.

Usually I switch my computer on, fans spin up high until system beeps and then fans spin at chosen speed.

The latest F40 bios doesn't behave like this for me.

I switch system on and the fans spin up like normal, system beeps and then my case fan spins up to full speed and the CPU fan stops until the windows login screen.
I'm assuming this is a fault as all other bios versions don't behave this way and surely we don't want our CPU fans stop spinning during the boot process of windows.

I have reverted to F32 for now but just want to make you aware of the fault.

Thanks
Rob

Greetings,
Latest isn't always best.  If your system is stable and running well on F32, I'd stay there.

Only install F40 when you use the Ryzen V3 - otherwise stay with any older bios you like.

For my part I stay with F6 since I am on a V2 CPU

Update

The latest f41 bios also has this same fan issue on my system, thought it would of been fixed by now.

Use F2 if you have Zen+ cpu, use F32 if you have Athlon 200-series and F41a if you have Zen 2 cpu.

Ok so I don't understand the logic here.
You are telling me to use F2 bios for my processor, but I'm currently using F32 which is working fine.
There are also other fixes/improvements been added since F2 bios like usb compatibility, q flash improvements etc.
I would miss out on these if I followed your recommendation.

The F40 and F41a has abnormal fan behaviour during windows boot but does contain the latest agesa update for the new zen CPUs.

Yesterday I've just updated my daughter's drivers bios etc like I normally do for her every few months.
Her computer is almost identical spec to mine except different motherboard manufacturer.
The latest bios I just grabbed for hers also is a update to support the new zen CPUs except hers doesn't have the fan issue that mine does on latest agesa version.

So this is further more proof that it's more a gigabyte issue than agesa issue.

In the last 15 years I've been putting computers together I've always kept things upto date without issues up until this one.

Thanks

I thought the same that last bios is always best bios but it is not, those new bioses are for new cpus only and you can have issues if you use ATHLON bios on Ryzen cpu. You want miss any feature bios for your cpu already has everything you need.
Notice that bioses are labeled differently if they are for different cpu and they use different AGESA. AGESA 1.0.0.3 AB is final version for ZEN 2 cpus and 1.0.0.6 is final version of agesa for ZEN+ cpus and AGESA 0.0.7.2 for Athlon cpus.

For BIOS F32 is

    Improved USB device compatibility
    Improved Q-Flash compatibility

but that is for ATHLON cpus not Ryzen. I hope this makes sense now, I too for long time thougt final version is always best on but it is not.

Good basic summary.  While backwards compatibility may be present, an older BIOS may yield better or optimal performance depending on the hardware, CPU, memory, etc.)

Latest is not always best.  Thumbs up for you  8)
