Title: GA-H55M-S2 graphic cards compatibility (NVIDIA gtx family)
Post by: esc0bar on July 27, 2019, 11:55:48 am
Hi. I want to upgrade graphic card on my PC. There is Nvidia GTS 450 in it, and I am leaning towards getting used NVIDIA GTX 760, 770, 970 or 1060. I am not sure if the graphic card will be recognized at all if I do that. Latest BIOS version (F4) on my motherboard is from 2010., and almost all graphic cards that I want to upgrade my PC with are manufactured years later. Is it possible to get information if the mentioned cards will work (be recognized) on my motherboard? If not, can I get some newer BIOS after which there will be support for the mentioned cards?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
Older board with fairly dated chipset.  BIOS could be a problem for you as well.  F4 is the last available.

PCIe is Gen2. (board with any Lynfield CPU).   Compatibility will depend on the card.  Given the age, there are no guarantees.

I would like to get official response from Gigabyte. Or at least response from someone who tried to put these graphic cards on this motherboard. I think that it would probably be recognized, but since I am ordering used item and getting it delivered to my house, it's kind of a hussle to return it back if it doesn't fit.

So anyone with the same motherboard that have tried the same?

Also, since I plan to upgrade my graphoc card with gigabyte product, here is another question to Gigabyte (hopefully someone from Gigabyte will answer to my question):

Will Gigabyte Gtx 1060 G1 Gaming fit on Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 (I have ATX case so physically it shoud fit, will it be recognized)? And also, can it be used in both legacy and uefi mode (this is important for me)?

Please if someone from gigabyte can respond, I am buying used graphic card without possibility to return it so will be stuck with card that cant be used on my setup.

Hi there,

this forum is user to user based and as such, you are very unlikely to get a response from Gigabyte. For that you would need to email Technical Support for your part of the world. https://esupport.gigabyte.com/Login/Index?ReturnUrl=%2f

You might want to try popping over to TweakTown (one of our sister sites) https://forums.tweaktown.com/ and post your problem there. On TweakTown you will find a lot of Gigabyte users and if there is an issue with the BIOS not recognising your choice of GPU, there are plenty of users on that site that can mod the BIOS for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks mate. Didnt even know that moding BIOS is an option. Will order that card anyway and will seek help if card is not recognized.
