Title: 990fxa UD5 and optical output
Post by: furball zen on October 25, 2019, 06:06:53 pm
I just moved recently and am now able to use the optical out on this mobo, but none of the 3.5mm jacks will play through it when set as a Line In. The single one i want to use will only play out of another 3.5mm jack. But while doing so, the optical wont output audio at the same time. Is this a normal limitation or some setting im missing elsewhere in Windows?

Greetings,
I'm not quite sure how moving affects the ability to use the optical out on the MB??

To be thorough, there are 3 revs of your board.  1.x, 3.0 and 3.1, which do you have?

All use Realtek ALC889 chip.

Rear Audio Connectors:
Line In Jack > Blue connector labeled as "K" page 21 of your manual.

What's plugged in there?  What kind of cable are you using.

The sets of audio connectors can work independently.  The optical output doesn't care where the input is coming from > Line in, Mic, Music stored on your disk, webpage, you tube, etc.

This is likely a BIOS, software or windows configuration.  Things to check:

BIOS > Peripherals > HD Audio Azailia Device [Enabled]

Next you will need to configure the input and out output in the HD Audio Manager.  Below is an example only:

The last part and what is often missed.  Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices ( I expect yours will look different depending on installed hardware)

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.
