By the sound of things you just need to set the drive priorities in the BIOS. In other words tell it which hard drive comes first. Also set it to boot from the DVD drive before the Hard drive.

There is normally a section that has hard drive order too. Just make sure your Samsung is in first place. While your in the BIOS disable all floppy drive options. Just makes everything faster.

No problem, I would rather you njust say if there is anything that you don't understand. So don't worry about that for the moment. What port have you got the hard drive plugged into?

Yes but if you have a quick read of our FAQ section first just in case of any problems. When you are ready follow the instructions there and then post back.

Press <Enter> on this item and then press the <Y> key to load the optimal BIOS default settings.
The BIOS defaults settings help the system to operate in optimum state. Always load the Optimized defaults after updating the BIOS or after clearing the CMOS values.

Restart

Yes, Boot Order is set to boot from DVD-Rom First. Change it to hard drive First after installing Windows.

Put SATA DVD-Rom Drive on Port SATA2_4

Put Samsung Spinpoint F3 on Port SATA2_0

BIOS Setting:
OnChip SATA Type (AMD SB750, SATA2_0~SATA2_3 connectors) - AHCI

OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type (AMD SB750, SATA2_4~SATA2_5 connectors) - IDE

Because once you have set up windows that is the quickest boot option. It save time for the BIOS to look for a disk in your DVD drive each time. Just make sure that it is set to DVD 1st and Hard DRive 2nd.

The SATA 0 port is the top one nearest the memory. The SATA 4 is the 3rd port down from the top. So can you follow that now?

Title: Re: build help

Great. Next go back into the BIOS and check the settings we were checking before. DVD drive boots first and then hard drive. Make sure that you save the settings and exit.

Post by: 66642 on July 21, 2010, 10:44:25 pm
so what does he problem seem like to u bad mobo ? u think i should try hooking my hdd to my old comp see if it formats?
Title: Re: build help
Post by: Dark Mantis on July 21, 2010, 10:47:04 pm
By all means but make sure that if you can format it you do it with NTFS not FAT32. It will at least enable you to test that the drive is working ok. I will see you tomorrow. Good luck.
EDIT
The chances are it is not the motherboard but more likely the drive or connection maybe the bios setttings.
