Title: B550 Vision D-P Thunderbolt/USB-C ports not working

Hi all,

The 2 USB-c ports on the rear of my motherboard have never worked since new (I've gone through Gigabyte support but they were no help).
I have tried multiple harddrives and none of them mount, yet I can hear the drives whirring when I plug them in implying that some power is getting to them. 
So I'm suspecting that it's a Windows or BIOS issue?  I have the latest BIOS F13e.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Look in Device Manager.  Expand the USB heading.  What do these ports appear as?

Based on the screenshot, the ports do appear to be installed correctly. 

You also indicated they power devices.  If you plug in a drive, and it powers up, check Disk Management.  Does the disk appear their without a drive letter assignment?

Hi, thanks for your reply.  The disks don't appear in Disk Management, but I've noticed something strange:  one of the disks has a light, which illuminates when it is connected.  But if I plug it into one of these rear ports, I can hear it whirr into life, but the light doesn't come on.  The same disk works fine if I use the front USB-C port.

Start by resetting your BIOS to defaults.  Then try a LinuxLive CD.  Any distro.  Connect a drive and see if it mounts.


If no, the hardware is likely bad.  If yes, its a software issue.  That should give you an answer.

Many Linux distros can be run from bootable media.  A USB stick or CD.  This would allow you to test the hardware in a different environment.  Ubuntu has this software.  After you restart your system boots back into windows normally with no changes.
