I have placed flush with the original CPU fan of my motherboard GA-X58A-UD5

I was very surprised by your figures though. I really didn't think that just adding a cowl would make that much difference. Well done Pierre. 8)

I was also surprised by such a difference
I have also noticed that the cpu fan is at speed max without the sock , and with the sock it runs much slower, which proves that with the sock the airflow is more effective

I suppose that the sock makes the airflow more directional and smoother towards the fan. It would get rid of any vortexes and swirling that may form otherwise. Almost makes me wish I had aircooling so I could play! ;D

I am finished with the small change of the PVC pipe for water drainage instead of cardboard ( NICOLL 100 KT )

It just shows what a bit of ingenuity can do(and some plastic pipe) ;) The plastic is certainly an improvement on the cardboard Pierre. Much more professional look. 8) The temperatures are really impressive for such a simple customisation though. Well done mate.

Say that was a good idea and it seems to work. One of my rigs has one right from the manufacturer. It is a threaded telescoping acrylic tube coupled to a mesh air-intake in the clear side window. Fits right down on top of the CPU. Looks like this.

I have seen a similar thing before but more like Pierre posted above. Just didn't realise it could make such a difference to the temperatures. Figured it was a gimmick. But hey, if it works 8)

One of the main reasons for the radical improvement is due to the fact that cool air is being vented directly onto the CPU. Under normal conditions with a stock cooler the already warmed air in the box is being blown over the CPU. The flow patterns of a box are very critical for good air cooling. Most boxes are very bad at managing air flow. Anandtech did a very good article about three years ago that showed just how important box design from a air flow point of view is for cooling.

Water cooling is functional in some situations - I have a WC set up for my test bench. Makes life so much easier for me to swap out CPU and just whack the water block onto it. But with the different sockets hole configurations irritate me. So now I have a universal mounting that I use from the top down rather than from under the motherboard.
Only thing that worries me about water is the n00b factor. Just scary the number of posts I have read about leaks and stuff. So far I have been fortunate I guess never to have had to deal with that.

DM HAD to switch to water cooling. There is too much hot air around, when he's in the same room as the PC. :D

I think it's probably also a performance fan problem exactly like a speaker without even a vulgar board or box !!
