Title: GA-P55-USB3 hangs at bios post screen
Post by: ABully on September 01, 2010, 04:36:53 pm
Hello....... I just built a new system with the following config
Intel I5 760
Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3
Patriot 2 X 2 GB DDR3 Dual Chanel Ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220399&Tpk=patriot
XFX Radeon 4670 HD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150450&cm_re=XFX_Radeon_4670_HD-_-14-150-450-_-Product
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB - http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/internal-storage/barracuda-7200-kit/
LG Multidisc Writer
Super Rainbow Case - http://www.rainbownsk.com/prodetails.aspx?elmnt=30

First faced problem starting it up. Followed in another thread http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2685.0.html

Got it solved. Was working for 2 days ok with win 7 ultimate. I was not happy with the wiring layout and the case fan controller which is inbuilt in case LCD and decided to set it right. Got it done the way i wanted and started it. And all hell broke loose. First the bios post screen went through and the next command line saying loading operating system but got stuck in the next command which said load from CD/DVD (y/n). I tried entering the bios setup; after a couple of hiccups got the blue screen but got stuck there.......... Next i tried putting the win 7 OS cd and tried starting it but came to the first problem again......... All in all the keyboard was not responding.......... I tried to change the boot sequence but the screen came grayed out; no option was accessible..........

If somebody can throw light on this.......... i would be much obliged!!!!!!!!!!

Either that or you have displaced a wire when you were rewiring it.

Or broken something when moving suff around, Or you moved SATA cables from blue to white ports....

I removed all wiring from the psu and kept it only for the mobo, cpu, dvd and hdd. It just hangs in the bios post screen and the keyboard is killed. The lights in keyboard come on for a second and then vanishes........... the same450 watts psu ran all components perfectly before this problem. i reverted to the original layout which worked but the same problem............

As Peteruk said in his first response it is most probably the PSU especially if it came with the case.

I have encountered this problem before and the only solution I found was to replace the PSU with a decent one.

Only other thing to check is that the stock cooler which I take it you still have fitted is firmly fixed down at all four corners.

It was working fine till i reconnected the wires............ the boot is not moving past the bios post............ and the keyboard is killed.........

checked........... i didnt touch the cooler nor the cpu......... i just reconnected the wires from the case lcd to the case fans......... the case fans were earlier connected to the psu directly.......... but you guys are missing the point.......... now the system is almost bare with no extra power connection to anything............. and the keyboard is getting killed at bios post and hangs there.............

I know where you're coming from but as I said I have had this happen to me before.

In fact the system would get all the way into Windows on occasions and then just freeze. This was really frustrating as I had built the machine for a friend and he took a lot of convincing that it was a faulty PSU. However, after  I replaced the PSU with a good spare that I had he has had no further problems.

Personally I like the Corsair models. Seasonic also make some nice ones. Just don't buy a cheap one and expect it to perform well.

I have deleted my above post because its not the right one its the CORSAIR CX400 sorry about that.

Corsair have made an absolute mess of the CX430 when compared to CX400 I really can't believe they did that.

The CX400 is a better PSU then the CX430.  >:(

Calm down is the first thing. What PSU did you get? Sorry just noticed it in your post. Are you sure that you have inserted all the power leads including the CPU 12v?

I got a gigabyte sperb series psu, tried just booting the system with mobo, cpu, cooler, ram and display card....... same old situation.......... no movement after bios post screen and the keyboard is killed......... i cant even enter bios setup........... yes the atx and cpu power is connected along with power and restart jumpers of the case

Seems like a decent PSU and should last you for a while without having to worry. Right well the only way we are going to get to the bottom of this is top go right back to basics.I think the best thing is to remove the motherboard from the case and then connect it up on the desktop (on some cardboard or similar). All you want to start with is the PSU, motherboard, CPU/heatsink/fan and the buzzer. When you have done that try and POST. Obviously it won't complete but it should give some beeps.

It is late now so I am going to bed but will be back in the morning to continue.

i hve already done it...........removed the mobo and placed it on a cardboard box with the cpu, ram and video card connected, still the same old situation......... and one thing guys........... my case doesnt have a speaker.......... so cant hear any beeps.............

i didnt touch the mobo when i was reconnecting the case fan........ as i said earlier all i did was connect the case fan wire from psu to the case fan controller.........

Anyway can u help me troubleshoot this thing now??????

Or maybe that cheap fan controller on the case killed it.

u mean killed the mobo, cpu or the ram????? how do i know which is the faulty one now?

i think its the ram........... see this post
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267346-12-ud4p-hangs-post

its the same scenario for me...........i dont have any other ram to test so will have to take it to office tom morning and try a different ram..........

Who knows what its done but you did say the system was shocking with static electricity which I guess you mean you touch the case and you got a shock? If you'd of used the PSU that you got now it might of tripped an overload protection feature.

With an luck its just taken out the mobo...do you see any burn makes?

You can try clearing CMOS but it might not fix this...

No burn marks nor smell............. i tried clearing the cmos by tripping the jumper as well as removing the mobo battery.......... still no change...............

quoting your last post on 2 days working........... i guess the static thing MAY have fried the ram or board or cpu........ but i'm only guessing........... have to check it with other parts tomorrow at office........... but if you can help check by some other way it would be much appreciated.........

When you are ready we can continue with the external build and see what transpires. It could be practically anything that is causing the fault so we need to be methodical. ;)

Try booting without the mouse or keyboard connected. Could be as simple as a dead mouse or keyboard and worth eliminating.

Guys........ would you believe it.......... it the electric grounding that was missing in the AC wire pin connecting the PSU.......... the AC pin i used and that which came with the new psu had only two heads and that was causing it to shock with static electricity...........

I realised it when i took it to my office and there the AC pin was already set and immediately reaised that it was not shocking......... i got a new three pin AC wire and VOILA!!!!!!! the system started............ no problem at all........... thanks a ton guys for all the help........... really appreciate it........... you guys cost me US $50  for the new PSU but i can live with it............

Really? The pic shows here for your new PSU a three pin headed.

I didnt buy from new egg........... i bought it from a local vendor......... i guess in dubai gigabyte ships it with two headed pins since the pack i bought had the poly wrap on so no tampering there...........

Such a simple thing and yet it causes so much trouble. This is why I ask people to make sure they have put their locations on the Profile so that we know what power is being used amoungst other things. Your new PSU will last you much longer anyway and will be more reliable.

Ok lets say it did come with a two headed pins you said from the start  “ Was working for 2 days ok with win 7 ultimate” this was with the old PSU with what ever AC cable it come with. You then did some wiring for the case fan controller and with that same PSU SAME AC cable it made the system not boot.

Now something is a miss with your story.

Ok... let me get it from the top... bought the hardware as mentioned in the spec...assembled everything... booted fine... didnt experience any shocks myself or maybe i was grounded then... installed win 7... worked for 2 days... then redid wiring for the case fan... thats when i got the static shock for the first time... failed to boot... realised that the psu was not earthed due to missing ground pin in the AC wire... replaced the wire... booted fine... thats it...

Let's not forget the main point here and that is that this member's computer is now fixed and working fine. This is what we are here for after all, to help people out. A good end to the problem.  ;)
