Title: CPU Suggestion for GA-P965-DS3/S3
Post by: Dirtnapper on September 16, 2010, 09:58:23 pm
I have the GA-P965-DS3/S3 mobo with a 2.67 cpu duo core. I am thinking or swapping out the cpu, what would be a good replacement cpu for this mobo?  I use the system for photo editing, spreadsheets, no gaming.  Thanks.

There is really no need for you to change your CPU at this time. The E6700 is a very good CPU and I could not in all honesty say that the gains you might get will be worth any additional expense.

How ever if you do want to upgrade just for the sake of it. Then a good option is the E8400, very good value right now as they can be picked up for half their retail price on E-bay.

But really I think what you have is pretty good. I had one and enjoyed it big time.

I would also agree with 1Day. You won't see any appreciable benefit and for what you use it, it is enough. Save your money for now and wait until you need to upgrade. Trust me it will be soon enough anyway. ;)

I have a E6700 :) now got a i7 ;D the worst part was the i7 cost less then when I got the E6700. You probably don't need to upgrade but if you had to i7 would be it new mobo and ram yes but only if you needed to upgrade.

For more speed go RAID or SSD.

Now that's a good place to spend some cash if you want to increase your speed. A nice SSD will really make a difference on boot times and loading etc.

I see NewEgg has this: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80570E8400 for $169, do you think this is a good deal and worth popping in?  Thanks.

It really depends on how much you want to spend your money. If you are desperate then the processor would give you a little more speed just make sure that the board will support it and from which BIOS version.
