Title: any plans for future mini-ITX boards?
Post by: simonw on June 15, 2009, 02:31:51 am
Does Gigabyte intend to produce any mini-ITX boards in the future that support either Intel or AMD desktop cpus?

Currently we only have 1 solution, the GC330, it uses the Intel ATOM Dual-Core processor
BTW, we have added UD3 with 2oz copper

More details can be found here:

We are thinking about AMD and other Intel solutions, but for now, only one.

While you are thinking of other solutions, how about the Atom dual-core on the nVidia 'ION' platform?
2 other manufacturers have got them out, I won't mention names but one is £200+ and the other is around £80, both similar specs.
While your on, how about including an onboard LVDS port and inverter connection? :D
That would be very handy for us, and would work well with your MIB T5142 case pottypete was talking about  :)

LOL... yes I know who these manufactures are.
As far as I know, GIGABYTE doesn’t have any plans for the nVidia ‘ION’ platform.
Well, at least for now or maybe we working on a super secret project which I can not talk about  :o

I don’t know much about LVDS ports!   ???

We definitely need more competition in the mini-ITX market.  While there are a reasonable number of choices for an Atom board, not so much for LGA775 or AM2+/AM3 platforms.

LGA775 all the way for the moment, hopefully cos I got a spare cpu  ;D

LVDS is Low Voltage Differential Signalling.
Basically, its serial data transmission (but seriously high speed) of the pixel data for direct connection to LVDS LCD Panels.
Its normally a 20 pin, or more commonly a 40 pin Hirose connector which you connect via suitable cable to your LCD Panel.

Benefits:
Primarily for manufacturers of all-in-one Panel PC's, (such as HMI's) car-pc's and of course, laptops/notebooks/netbooks
This means no additional electronics are required to convert the VGA or DVI signal into something the LCD Panel can understand
