Title: Kane and Lynch: Dead Men with HD 4650 AGP?
Post by: cball885 on October 10, 2010, 09:58:23 am
I am posting this problem that has been causing me lots of grief and frustration.

I have been playing Kane and Lynch on an ATI RAdeon 9700 pro on the lowest settings and decided to buy the Gigabyte GV-R465D2-1Gi to improve the looks and framerate of the game hower everytime I load a game it crashes everytime it finishes loading, I hear the background music/ambience but the opening scenes do not play and the only way out is by pressins Ctr-Alt-Del.

How can the game work ok with the Radeon 9700 Pro AGP card that is 8 years old and not work on my new Gigabyte Ati Radeon HD 4650 AGP 1GB?

does anyone have any answers?

PS this card is very good with other games like Hitman 2, Counter Strike Source and Flightsim X

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
The first thing I would suggest, as you say it is working fine with other games, is to look at the games website and see if there are any patches or if it is a known problem. You are probably not the first to encounter it.

i have checked the Eidos site, the IO Interactive site, the AMD/ATI site and Steam support site and there is no patch available.  I have read forums and other people have similar problem with this gamebut I cannot understand how it worked with the Radeon 9700 but not HD4650?

If other people have had similar problems with the game, how have they fixed it? If they haven't then I am sure there will be a patch released when it is ready.

i looks like there are a lot of people annoyed at Eidos for not bringing out a patch for this problem.. do you know if gigabyte are bringing out an up to date driver for this card? the one on the gigabyte website is quiet old

I really can't say as we are not privy to that kind of information. However I would think that unless there is a reason (ie problem or expected increase in performance) then an updated driver will not be issued.

Wellthe first thing you should do rather than just hoping something gets done and leaving it to someone else is to inform GGTS of the problem and ask them to resolve it. At least that way you know there are aware that there is a problem. ;)

No a 4670 would be asking a bit much. It would play OK on one of the high end 4xxx series though.

this is what i got from Eidos...

Date  13 October 2010
Further to your correspondence of 11 October 2010

Dear Sir or Madam

Thank you for contacting EIDOS Interactive Limited customer support.
Your customer number is  400574965

According to your msinfo file, the graphics driver which is currently in use is one from 2007. Also, as you have changed graphics cards, even though they are of the same manufacturer, you would need to reinstall the drivers to ensure it works correctly.

Uninstall the current Catalyst display drivers from within Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel and reboot your PC. Once back to the desktop, download and install the latest drivers from : http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon-xp-32.aspx - then reboot once more.

If problems persist, please send us updated dxdiag and msinfo files.

AMD now say

After analyzing them, the first thing we notices is that you have one of the newest graphics cards and
that your BIOS version is still from 2002!

Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software, Inc. ASUS A7V8X ACPI BIOS Revision 1007 10/04/2002

Also your chipset controller is from 2002 too.

Name: VIA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller
Device ID: PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_B168&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_00\3&61AAA01&0&08

Please go to the following website

http://asus.co.uk/support/

check for all available updates for your motherboard model

 A7V8X REV 1.xx

Please let us know if this action has brought any improvement. If not, please send us a new problem report - I would like to see your system configuration after new updates have been installed .

The BIOS update is not a problem for you as long as you have USB ports and a USB pendrive. You can configure the BIOS to boot form the pendrive to flash the BIOS update.

I am very disapointed with the response from EIDOS and AMD, and I have not heard anything back from Gigabyte, I dont know what to do, will STEAM refund me the money spent on this game? I will find out, its such a shame because I thought by getting a 'better' gfx card I would get more enjoyment from the game but has only caused me suffering

I can't understand why you have not heard anything from GGTS yet.
Has anyone even read your question yet? I take it you have checked on the site?
They can be slow but not normally this long. If you PM me the question number I will ask runn3R to look into it for you.

By the way what does the game quote as minimum specs?

my computer exceeds minimum specs, and like I said before, the game ran on my old graphics card (Radeon 9700 pro)

I had the same problem with my X1650Pro, but I solved it. So you need to downgrade your driver to 8.6 (or if it doesn't work, then 8.1; maybe  I don't remember correctly)[/color]

Hope it will solve Your problem too!
