I noticed something a while back when I was swapping BIOS's a lot.  There is an option in the integrated peripherals screen for the Marvell controller to keep the BIOS on the (Marvell) chip, to use the latest, to use the one that is embedded in the Gigabyte BIOS, etc.  The exact options varied some with the Gigabyte BIOS.  This may be obvious, but I think I found out the hard way that you need to update (match) the Marvell BIOS with the Marvell BIOS embedded within the Gigabyte BIOS whenever you update the Gigabyte BIOS.  There is a setting now called AUTO which probably does that.  Where this really mattered for me was getting the UD3R to awaken properly from Windows 7 hybrid sleep.  Thank you Pierre for your work!

You can found new SATA3 firmware update for 88SE9128 Marvell chip to :

I downloaded the firmware near the bottom of this page:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm (http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm)

I burned the ISO and booted it.  Is it safe to run it to update the Marvell firmware on a X58A-UD3R?

Hi,

just applied this update to my AMD board the GA-790XTA-UD4. At the moment I only have one Western Digital Hard-drive attached to the controller and there has been no significant improvement to throughput on it.

Not sure how it will go with a RAID array or SSD and not sure if I really want to be bothered with too much testing.

Something to bear in mind when you do update the Firmware, make sure you have removed any devices attached to the controller or the update can't take place. There are 7 sections that are flashed during the process and, for some reason, it wanted to flash sector 3 first.

Hope this helps
