for start i never cared how my computer work's, but a few days ago searching information about overclocking.....surprise...my intel processor who normal have 2200ghz clock speed work only at 1200 mgh......the mathematics are ok, i mean 6x200 - 1200 (core ratio & fsb speed). but on specificationes about the cpu says: Clock Speed 2.2 GHz, Bus/Core Ratio 11.......anyway i tried to change from bios the multiplier, because afterall is not overclocking i only want to set my CPU at normal values, but does't work.....it let's me choose the 11x multiplier but after saved, nothing....restart and it remains at 6x.......is there any way to restore my retarded CPU???? please help me ( CPU: Intel® Pentium® Processor E2200
(1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB), motherboard: GA-P31-S3G)

the problem is from the motherboard or form bios.... i guess the problem is one of thoose two.... Off Post: sorry for my english, a bit rusty

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
Where did you read the figures you are quoting as the speed of the CPU?

Well it does seem to be running slowly I had thought that maybe it was just a reporting error.
Is that the latest BIOS version for your motherboard?
-
yes, updated last week......(with @bios)..... :'(.........does like ram memories over 4 gb, have something with windows, if x86 or x64????
-
Oh, you used @BIOS. THis is a dangerous tool as it flashes the BIOS through the OS which puts another layer in between to go wrong. Quite often we find people brick their boards or end up with corrupted BIOSes. We always recommend using QFlash for BIOS updates. It is part of the BIOS and is a far more stable utility. Possibly this is what has happened in your case.
I suggest re-flashing it properly and on the homepage of QFlash there is an option for Keep DMI Data amke sure you disable it. Then flash the BIOS and load Optimised BIOS settings afterwards.
-
nope....:((((( it doesn't do the trick.......i realy don't understand if i can modify the value in bios, why won't save.....anymore advice???? i realy need it before i set my pc on fire over the balcony
-
Ok so we will clear the CMOS. Unplug the computer from the mains and then press the power button to get rid of any residual power left in the capacitors. Next remove the battery from the motherboard and leave it out for ten minutes at least.
Next replace the battery and then plug back into the mains. Then power up and load optimised setup defaults.
-
done......but zero response......what i fiind strange is that optimized defaults is setting the processor where he should be at 2200 mgh with 11x, but is unable to keep the sentings.......could be that the processor is loked somehow??? from what i undestand are some processors with loked multiplier.......but if he is why the f**k Intel says that he works at 2200 with 11x and why optimized defaults recognize those values????
-
It is possible the processor is faulty but it is not locked by Intel at that multiplier. It still sounds more like a faulty BIOS.
What power source have you got in Romania?
-
220v......
-
Is it stable at that voltage or does it fluctuate?
-
is stable.....that i know for sure
-
After you go into the BIOS and change the multiplier you press F10 to save and exit. Then what do you get any warning or exactly what happens?
It just occurred to me you are saving your settings when you exit the BIOS aren't you?
-
off course that i save when i modify values..... :))...... after I save the settings in bios, reboots, then has a kind of shutdown, cooler stops, everything, electric current goes bye bye.....and then reboots at the same values......it sucks
-
OK. Just a shame it wasn't as simple as that. ;)
You said you are running the latest BIOS. Why did you do the update?
Was it working alright before the update?
-
before the update i was having bios F5, after it was F7D....lattest but beta....now i am back on F5 because i though is because of that.......before the update it was the same that is why i chose to do it
-
I don't suppose it will make any difference but try flashing it with the F6 BIOS update just to make sure it's not that.
-
it doesn't, i tried.....:)
-
anymore ideeas......pls, is there anyway to fiind if something is wrog whith my hardware, tests or something else?
-
anymore ideeas......pls, is there anyway to fiind if something is wrog whith my hardware, tests or something else?
so i have found on intel website an diagnostic tools for procesor......the cpu is ok, that i know
-
Well at least that is good news and another thing we can rule out.
-
Johnny, get CPU-z and Prime95. Open up CPU-z whilst running prime95 and you should see 2.2GHz. The CPU only works at the full speed when it needs to and will go to the 6x multiplier when not being used as heavily (intel speedstep). This will save power (and I would leave it on), but you can turn it off in the BIOS. (May be called EIST or something.)
-
Yes I already considered that badbonji but if you look at the OPs figures in Everest it doesn't actually show it using the multiplier properly
CPU Type DualCore Intel Pentium E2200, 1200 MHz (6 x 200)
-
I thought everest only reported the current clock speed? I might be wrong though. It can't hurt to open up a prime95 + cpu-z just to see what happens :)
-
No I agree anything that helps get to the bottom of it is good. I tried running both at the same time on my system and got the correct readings from both that's why I discounted it.
-
I tend to get a lot of mis-readings from applications, and windows too on clock speeds. I tend to only trust CPU-z. 6x multiplier is the one for speedstep so that was making me think that it was just idle.

Yes I understand where you are coming from and you may even turn out to be right. I wouldn't normally use Everest myself but as the OP was I thought I would do the same.

ok .....i tried and the values that cpu-z is showing are from 1200.0mhz to 1200.2mhz max :((.......another thing it seems that my ddram are workinh at 400mhz....and they are for 800 (dual channel)....or 400 is for channel??? 2x400-800, is it posible that my motherboard is broken??? and if so, is there any way to fiind out???
-
The DDR memory is double up so no problem but the multiplier is still showing a minimum reading. It should be moving between 6x - 11x depending on load.
What I suggest is to go into Advanced CPU Settings in the BIOS and disable EIST and then check with CPU-Z
-
.....the same.....but it was worth trying......next?????
-
I'm starting to run out of ideas to be honest.
In the BIOS is the CPU set to manual?
-
could you be more specific please.....cpu-manual?......
-
Sorry in the BIOS look for CPU and it might be set to Auto if it is set it to Manual

i've finelly solved the probelm..... ;D it seems that when CPU thermal monitor 2(TM2) is enabled it gives me only 6x, when disabled work's just fine.....but i wonder why, my cpu temperature doesn't go over 50 degrees C. is it a problem??

It's definitely not a problem if your temperature doesn't go over 50 degrees as long as it is that it is just not reporting that the temperature is over 50 degrees. I would suggest running Prime95 for an hour and see if it still says less than 50 degrees. If it does then I would be suspicious.

Is that on the Latest BIOS? If so please send in an issue report so it can be fixed on the next BIOS release

Thanks
Yes, if your CPU temp does not go over 50C with Prime95 running for a long time, try LinX or Intel Burn Test and see if you see the same, if you do try with more voltage and see if it still happens. If it does, then you have stuck sensors in your CPU, which you can test now if you want using the Sensor Test in RealTemp
