Title: GV-R577UD-1GD + GA-X58A-UD3R crashes

Hi All,

I just bought some new components including a GV-R577UD-1GD (batmobile HD 5770) video card and GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard. As soon as I install drivers for the video-card the computer hangs when booting into the OS or sometimes randomly with scrambled screens. Sometimes Windows 7 restarts the video driver a few times until scrambled and then computer hangs. Normal VGA drivers seem to work fine.

Found out when I disable 'CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)' and 'CPU EIST FUNCTION' in the BIOS everything works fine.

I haven't overclocked any component. Same problems in Ubuntu 10.10. Have updated the bios of motherboard and video-card to the latest. Used the drivers from the dvd and downloaded the latest online.

I would like to keep everything stock so also prefer to have these 2 bios functions enabled.

Could this be a hardware fault ?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I expect you are installing the latest 10.9 drivers. These are very buggy and have cause numerous problems for people including some forum members. If so try cleaning the drivers from the system and then install the 10.8 version.

I have tried drivers 8.702 from the Gigabyte website and 10.9 and 10.10 from the AMD website. All have the same effect, they work great if I disable the 2 BIOS settings and screw up as soon as I enable them in the BIOS and the OS is about to show the desktop. The BIOS settings otherwise are standard ( Load Optimized Defaults ).

The thing is it does exactly the same when booting into Ubuntu 10.10 with the latest ATI drivers.

I've attached screenshots of the scrambled snowy screen. One under Windows 7 64bit and one under Ubuntu 10.10 64bit

Video-card BIOS version: 012.015.000.000
Motherboard BIOS version: FB

Is there anything I can try ?

I take it you have already checked the obvious things like that the card is in the correct slot (top one) and that the slot is enabled as the primary display to boot from?
Beyond thayt I can't think of anything else but a hardware problem. I would advise returning the items to the retailer for checking.
