Title: ga-m68m-s2p put the memory to 1066mh

I have this motherboard installed with amd athlon 64x2 5000 and
Patriot KIT 2 x 1024 MB DDR2 1066MHz PC2 8500 (pdc22g8500elk) according to the motherboard manual if I remember correctly I have to change the processor for a am2 + or am3 to go to 1066 right? someone can help me choose the proc. In the bios only gives me how the 800mhz memory but I'll have to do something more for the memories to go at this speed?

Hi there,

Can you post back with the revision number of your motherboard as there are two versions. Rev 1.0 or Rev 2.3?
Also how much do you want to spend on a new CPU?

version 2.3 on the cpu had thought of something like x2 athlon II 250 or better would be a black edition? oc moderate thinking as my plate with the current processor will not let me pass over 215 mhz fsb

A Black Edition CPU would be the best option as it makes things a lot easier when it comes to overclocking. Of course you have to decide how much you want to spend and if you can really afford to buy one.

If you check here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3498 you can find the CPU's that are supported by your motherboard. An N/A in the last column means the CPU isn't supported.

ok, thank you for the cpu so I have more or less clear, but what really worries me
is that in the bios it only shows the option to 800mhz on ram speed, then I'll have to go up the fsb to give me 1066mhz on the ram?

Hi there,

I think the RAM speed is dependant on the CPU you use. If you change your CPU to an AM3 then you should also find you can adjust your RAM to it's correct speed.

You are corret in assuming that at the present time, with your current set-up you will have to increase the FSB to increase the speed of your RAM.
