Title: Who have a GTX 460 (GV-N460OC-1GI) can tell me the card size (HxLxW)
Post by: Lele81 on November 04, 2010, 05:21:36 pm
Hi there,
I'm sure that someone have this card, the famous GTX 460 1GB double Fan (GV-N460OC-1GI).
Can you measure its dimensions and tell me? I don't care about the heigth, but I need to know the precise length and width!!!

I found that they are H=43, L=238 , W=130 mm, but if you see my other post...we are not sure, if someone have it can confirm or say the truth?

Thank you!!!

P.S About the length, please specify if you start measuring from the PCB or if you are including also the back connector for example, it's important to be precise!

Thanks, I'll be waiting for an answere from you (but did you request from the Tecnical Support or where?)

And of course, for anyone that HAVE this card in its case, I'll be waiting from an answere from you too!!!

Thanks to everyone ;)

Oh I don't blame you for getting the answer from wherever you can. Yes it was our UK Technical Support that I asked. Normaly I can get an answer from them fairly quickly.

The sooner the better, and the more accurate the better too :-)

Did you ask to specify from where to where they'll give the measurement? Because I don't always know if they'll include all the length (connector on the back included) or only the part starting from the PCB!

I think it is overall dimensions but I will check when I get the answer.

If you don't have an answer by tomorrow after I get back from an appointment, I'll open my case back up and measure for you.

It is quite a long card and connecting my corsair 650watt psu to the rear of it add's another 10mm, but it just fits in my antec 300 case, even with a hdd directly behind it.
I'll even post a pic to show you how closse it is :)

Thank you too friend, your support will be very appreciated!!!! I know it's quite long, that's why I need accurate measurements, because I have space...but iI think I'm quite at the limit!!!!

Hi

I have received the information you required and am just asking if these measuerments are overall totally (which I am sure they are)

GV-N470SO-13I: H=42.5, L=291.1, W=126.9 mm
GV-N460OC-1GI: H=43, L=238 , W=130 mm

Hope this helps
 ;)

EDIT: I have just received confirmation that these sizes are external and total.

My son has confirmed that the measurements are:

approx: L - 220mm (measured from edge of pcb to the end of the 6pin power connector's)
W - 125mm actual card, I am guessing that the extra 50mm is to allow air intake for the fans.

Thank you very much to BOTH of you :-)

Your informations are very helpful!!!! And they are accurate of course :-)
You two have just confirmed me that the card is going to fit properly in my not so big case!!!
Thanks for the photos too!

I'm happy, and in a few hours I'm going to order the card without problems!!!

P.S. does the card require two Power connectors or are they only suggested? (is one enough? I ask because I should order one connector maybe).

Bye!

I presume it requires two, as my son uses two on this card as seen in the photo.

The card come's complete with two 4pin molex to 6pin power adapter's, so no need to order anything extra.

It also requires at least a 450w PSU, But I'd say 500w minimum so you have enough power to supply more than one or two hdd's.
A friend of my sons uses a 530w Hiper psu and my son use's a 650w Corsair one with absolutley no problems at all running the card, fans, 3 hdd's etc....

I will hand this account over to him, as it is his card and he will be of more use for all this technical stuff than myself. I only created the account to help with another quiery.
So all corresponding information will be from him.

Kind regards.

Yeah!!! They SHOULD listen to your suggestion, Dark Mantis! So many people are asking about Gigabyte dimensions (I noticetd that googling these days :-)
They are not so smart if don't listen to you!

Thank you Nero (or son of Nero maybe :-) ).
Well...I have a 380W PSU, but I asked in some italian forums and many people told me that it should be enough, since it is a Seasonic S12-II, and have two +12V lines, each one providing 17Ampere....let's hope it will be enough!!!

Regarding the PSU, Seasonic is one of the best makes no doubt about that but I would still worry about a 380W  PSU powering your system especially with a 460 GPU. I hope for your sake I am wrong but I doubt it. :-\

Hello all, I'm nero's son. I am using this account now as my mother does not want it she only joined for me anyway, so it'll be me from now on :)

Seasonic are a good brand of PSU no doubt, but on the cards box it recommends a 450w psu.

17amps per rail is pretty low these days, for example my PSU
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135514
Has about 52A, which compared to 17 is slightly more.

In my opinion, I really wouldn't want to take the risk, but it's up to you.
I'm sure someone with any more knowledge on psu's will jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my opinion.

Hi nero jnr and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Actually it's always a good idea to read the prior posts before posting ;) but as you're new we will let you off. I had just commented on the PSU power being inadequate, but certainly one more like yours would be more suitable. I have the HX850 and they are very good PSUs.

I always read prior posts and like many like minded individual's some member's seek more information and the more heads the better :)
I like to try to help out too,  don't mean to tread on your toe's   ;D

I like the Corsair PSU's, they are good and solidly built. I did want the HX850 for future proofing just in case I wanted to add another card and use crossfire, but couldnt afford a second card or that psu at the time (that was the HD 4850 at that time, hence crossfire).

Lele81

If you find that you do need a different PSU your welcome to report it back and either Dark Mantis or myself I'd imagine would be more than happy to help you find one :)
Though I'd lean on a PSU by corsair for their stability and 5 year warrenty, I presume thats standard with all corsair PSU's.

Hi tris
No problem with you adding to the post to be sure. As you say the more info the better in a lot of cases. I just thought you had missed reading what had been said before ;)
Regarding the guarantee on the Corsair PSUs the HX 850 and the new Gold Range of AX PSUs have a seven year warranty. Just shows how happy the manufacturer is with the product!

Hello to everyone!
Thanks for all your info....!

I was thinking, after read you, to upgrade my 380W PSU then....well, If you would like to help me out, I found 4 PSUs that I could like and afford (I am choosing from a shop with good prices near my home, so I have not all the models to choose from).
I found those:

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600 W @ 80€   (42A and 504W combined on the +12V, 80 Plus)
SEASONIC S12-II 520W        @ 80€  (40A and 480W combined on the +12V, 80 Plus Bronze)
SEASONIC S12-II 620W        @ 90€  (48A and 576W combined on the +12V, 80 Plus Bronze)
ZALMAN ZM600-ST - 600 W   @ 85€  (42A and 500W combined on the +12V, 80 Plus)

€=euro :-)

I would go with the Seasonic 520...what do you think?

I would say your best bet would be the SEASONIC S12-II 620W @ 90€  (48A and 576W combined on the +12V, 80 Plus Bronze)
It is the best of the bunch there and is a decent output with a 12 single rail which is the best for modern equiptment. The 5 - 10 Euros difference would be money well spent in the long term.

Yes, my only doubt was that if the PSU is to powerful, maybe I'll not let it work at the best load for the best efficiency? In other words, wouldn't the 520W on MY pc work with best efficiency than the 620w?

And If you know, another question :-) There are also the modular versions of those PSUs (s12II and M12II)...do you know if there are differences in noise or other between the two?

Thanks

The two versions of the PSUs will be the same as far as efficiency goes. Most power supplies are at their peak efficiency at around 50-60% output. The more modern ones extend that band to nearer 90%. Another thing to remember is that PSUs deteriorate with age and use so you need to build in at least a 10% wear factor when purchasing.

Your question regarding the two types of PSU modular and normal, there shouldn';t be any difference sound wise just that fact that you have the extra option to only use the cables you require. Just makes for a neater build.

From the officla Seasonic Website:
The S12II Bronze Series achieves the 80 PLUS® Bronze standard of at least 82%, 85% & 82% power usage efficiency at 20%, 50% & 100% operating loads respectively

So...considering this, you think that the 620W will worth it? Surely I will use it at a low load percentage:)
To bel clear: the 10€ more is not a problem of course, I'm just trying to choose the best for my system:)

Ok about the modular thing ;-)

Personally I would still go for the slightly larger unit.
1) Little difference in price
2) Most efficiency at 50% load ( which is roughly where you expect to be)
3) A bit of spare power for age deterioration
4) Futureproofing in case of more hardware later.
5) Just coz its better.

Well ok, you convinced me:-)

I'll go with the Seasonic 620W then!!!
For 100€ there is also the modular one, but I don't know if it will worth the price:)

The advantage of using a modular PSU is that you only need to connect the cables you actually need for Graphics Card(s) Hard-drive(s) etc. It makes keeping the wiring inside your PC case much easier which helps with improving airflow and hence cooling.

I know that, but also I read somewere (googling :-) that not modular PSUs have some advantages too, because all the cables start from the same point (came out from the same hole), instead in the modulars the cables are spread all way long the side......for some people this is considered more caothic :)
So, I really don't know if it worth the price, but I think to take the NOT modular one and I'll try to assemble it with care and precision :-)

A lot depends on what case you are going to be using and whether the PSU will be top or bottom mounted etc. Often it is easier as absic says to use only the cables that you require with the modular type so that can be a benefit but obviously it must be your own personal choice.

Well, My case have the PSU on the top, in the end I think I'll go with the NON modular model, because the modular is 2cm longer (I have a small case, as you could have understood from my GTX 460 possible issues ;D ), and I noticed that all the cables that I don't use with the Non modular....I can hang them on the top of the case (as they are now, even if with the 620W they will be more), where there's a free space with nothing around :)

PSU Arrived and installed  ;) (Seasonic S12-II 620W Plus Bronze)

It's as quite as the S12-II 380W I had before (maybe it's even a bit quieter :-) But it's more hot (i feel it from the air coming out from it).

Now I only have to wait for the GTX 460 (it should arrive in the next 2-5 days!)

The Video Card has arrived Too!

Great great card!!!! First of all, the dimensions we talked about are correct, infact it fits very well in my case!

About the card, estetically it shows a great construction quality!

About the noise and temperature:
In Idle its inaudible, MUTE.
In full stress (Furmark) it's very quite too, I only feel a very faint noise and the temperature after 10 minutes of stress, has stabilized to 68 Celsius Degrees ;)

Very very cool card (in both meaning  ;D)
