Title: GA-EP45-DQ6 - USB2 not working
Post by: heineb on July 07, 2009, 12:20:09 pm
Hi,
I have now tried a number of ways to activate USB2 of the EP45-DQ6 mobo, but regardless of which USB-port or BIOS-setting I try, I cannot get it to perform in USB2 mode during boot-up. I am installing my OS from a USB-key, but doing so with USB1.1 is very slow. It works eventually, but it is painfully slow. When I get the OS up running, USB2 works from the OS.

Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Best
Heine

Hi Heine

Obviously I'm not doubting your intelligence (or anybody elses on this forum) but I've got to ask... is USB2.0 enabled in BIOS?
and it is actually an USB2.0 Flash drive?

Also have you tried disabling / enabling USB Keyboard / Mouse.

How do you know its working at 1.1? apart from being painfully slow?

Hi FluX,

Thank you for having faith in my IQ. ;-)

Yes, I have checked all the usual things; USB2 enabled in BIOS, tried disabling/enabling keyboard/mouse, BIOS reports USB2 on startup screen, and yes, the USB flashdrive is USB2 capable. I have booted from it on other mobos as well as labyops, which is does as expected very fast.
Well, I don't exactly know if the port is running 1.1, but I have tried booting from a USB1.1 only port before and the experience is similar.

Hi
There's a link to a similar scenario to yours on, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bios-a-z,1200-4.html
 Namley,.

On many motherboards, the "USB Controllers" Option is installed so that only USB 1.1 is active. The root cause of this issue is that Windows XP itself, prior to the addition of any Service Packs, does not support USB 2.0. The following BIOS manipulation lets you activate support for USB 2.0 after the fact.

To do it, simply change the value for this option to "Enabled" (as shown in Screenshot E) or to "V1.1+V2.0", as may sometimes be the case. The prerequisite for using the faster USB 2.0 interface is that Service Pack 1, at a minimum, must be installed for Windows XP

It may help
