Title: Problems with 3D Mercury Case. Beeping constantly but system & and runs cool
Post by: obwhon58 on November 19, 2010, 03:56:41 am
I'm trying to repair a computer that got dumped on me.  The Asus motherboard went bad and I put in a Gigabyte board and the system fires and runs fine.  The problem is it's mounted in a 3D mercury case with the 3D Galaxy cooling system.  I've downloaded the manual and checked all the installation notes but when I fire up the system it runs and boots into Windows.  Checking in the bios in PC Health it's running at a cool 33 degrees C but it starts beeping as soon as it fires and never quits.  If I unplug the power to the cooling system the beeping goes away.  I've checked the water level and it's full.  I've checked the polarity of the power switch.  The window at the top of the case is spinning around and around so the pump must be working. I've taken out the level control device from the top of the tank and the float seems to work.  If you lift the float up and then fire up the system then drop the float it shuts down like it's suppose to.  I've never worked on this kind of case before and I don't know where to go next.  There is nothing on the net or in the manual about troubleshooting this.  I've put a piece of tape over the speaker in the top of the case so it doesn't drive me MAD. Any help here would be appreciated.  This is a really nice case and system but the beeping makes me wanna use it for a target for a passing car on the highway.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Are you sure that it isn't just an alarm from the motherboard telling you the fan is not connected or spinning at the right speed. Don't forget if you are using watercooling I expect at least one of the fan headers is now unused.

I unplugged the PC speaker.  The sound isn't coming from the motherboard or computer.  It's coming from a little round black speaker or pizzio speaker just in front of the water level sensor or fill spout for the cooling system.  I have a small fan that is mounted over near the CPU that is plugged into the main system fan connector and the rear fans are plugged into the aux. fan connector.  I've experiment with changing these all around.  I don't think any of the beeps are caused by the system that I can tell. I've disabled all the alarm warnings for temperature. in the PC Health part of the Bios. Like I said in the original post, if I unplug the power connector for the liquid cooling system that powers the pump then the beeping stops.

Yes I did read what you said carefully but it just seemed to much of a coincidence. In that case I would assume a stuck sensor, it maybe just dirty from the old cooling fluid. If you can get at it try cleaning the contacts.

I notice that there is a manual speed control incorporated. Is it set fast enough?

Have you made sure there is no air in the system at all?

Well I took the sensor out and it was clean.  I played with it a bit.  By moving it up and down you can make the video on the monitor go on and off.  If you allow the float to drop all the way to the bottom it will shut the system down. At this point I'd just settle for destroying the speaker so I don't hear the beeping and run this thing till it blows up and then dropping it off a high cliff.  Gigabyte obviously isn't going to support this product.  I can't see where you can buy them on the Net anymore.  There is no support for it on their web page.  There is no documentation or schematics for it.  The installation manual is rudimently simple and has no troubleshooting tips.  This is one high dollar case considering the amount of support available.  I see no where that you can buy parts for it. If I had a wiring schematic I could at least attempt to determine the cause of the problem.

Sorry I can't help you there but I just ent to the web to get my info on it. You might be able to find something helpful at one of the following sites.

Well to further my inverstigation I drained the system.  Allowed all water to run out as described in the manual.  Then I turned the system on and WOW the pump does work.  It will probably shoot water 20 feet.  I finished draining the system then refilled so I could say there were no water bubbles.  The BEEPING Continues.  I was to get with Gigabyte and patent this technology as a replacement for waterboarding.  This is the best torturing device I've seen in a while.  I'm just about to loose my mind and I've got tape over it so it's only about 25% as loud as it normally should be.

It's built into the circuit board

Thanks Dark Mantis.  That was the winning trick.  I grabbed the little sucker with a pair of needle noses and twisted the top of it off.  It was a pizzio speaker and it quit working when the top came off.  Problem solved for now.
