Gigabyte is planning to release a new series of Gaming Motherboards named G1 - Killer. I don't have an exact date for the launch yet but it is expected to be Q1 2011.

According to my inquiry here:
http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2849.0.html
today, more details appear as new series will launch at CES 2011 a brand new line of motherboards that target specifically the extreme gaming segment, thus competing directly with Asus' own ROG (Republic of Gamers) motherboards.
Unofficial will be three models atm:
X58-G1,X58-G2 and X58-G3.
Later, will be released also for Sandy Brigde series.
-
We have announced following wallpapers for these motherboards:

Looks mean! Any word on when they might be marketed yet?
-
Hi DM
Here is the answer:
(...) new series will launch at CES 2011 (...)
And CES will take place in January 6 - 9, 2011
-
Thanks runn3R
I did read ex58's answer but wasn't sure if it was just conjecture or official.
-
OK. I see.
-
This motherboard looks epic, love the black PCB design!
Now all we need is a successor to LGA1366 to arrive :P
-
2011 ;)
-
2011 ;)
Thats going to be awesome, wonder what gigabyte has planned.
-
I kinda have an idea. My source is a bit shaky, so maybe some details wont be 100% accurate:

So i finally made my debut in the uk forums =)

They certainly look the business!
I like the magazine style heatsinks for the Southbridge.
-
Ya they are kinda nice looking overall. I don't like the green though, but since P67 has came out the black is starting to grow on me. The gun barrel on the mosfets looks cool too.
I hope to see 1366 replacement boards come out in black, with baby blue memory/PCIE slots like the ones they are using now.
Funny, we all thought the magazine heatsink was the NB :)
I can't see the differences between the Guerrilla and the Sniper, can you?
-
Oh yes, I missed the gun barrel!! I still maintain that they should have used black boards with black/UV slots.
No now you come to mention it I can't see any difference in the two boards. Maybe it's just the price! ;D
-
The slots might be UV, but ya I do agree I think they should be UV no matter if they are black or blu.
Of course I'd really prefer blue slots since they are taking away the blue PCB already. Black on black like what's currently on P67 is just too much black I think.
Ya price will be different for sure, I'm sure we'll be able to tell once their web pages are online.
-
Bit-tech has a preview here, with some news of another possible lineup of the G1 based boards in the near future -one for us overclockers too.

I must admit when I thought about it I did consider maybe there would be too much black. As you say blue UV slots would be good and would keep a bit of the Gigabyte corporate colour in the design.
-
Ya, I do think it's a bit too much. The blue or gold tones on the heatsinks do look nice, but I don't think it's enough and they should have colored the slots as well

Both Assassin and Sniper have Creative Sound Blaster onboard while Guerilla has Realtek HD audio.
Guerrilla will be bundled with Creative software to support X-Fi (Xtreme Fidelity).

What has suprised me is that the manufacturer hasn't incorporated UEFI into the new boards yet.
Lsdmeasap... they should have left the designing to us, would have been a terrific looking board! ;)
-
Interesting looking boards, especially with the choice of audio. Not sure if I would want to use one though!

Yes, I can see it now. Everything water cooled and it would be supplied with its own chainsaw for modding!!!! :P
-
Now that would be worthy of the name Killer!!
-
Thanks for the info Runn3r!

EFI is coming for sure to P67 sometime soon via BIOS update, not sure about these or not though?
Yes, we could design some good boards I'm sure!
-
Is it possible to just run an update to patch it or would it have to be hardware encoded first?
-
The hardware is there already for P67, and it's planned to be implemented sometime. As for the newer X58's I haven't heard anything yet
-
I was kinda thinking that these boards were just a proof of concept or a Sandybridge lineup, they will actually be released in x58? why? where are already a great series of boards ud3/4/5/7/9. Are these G1 boards any better overclockers? or are they just marketed towards gamers. It's said that these boards have an "Enlarged CPU zone for better cooler compatibility". As an overclocker I think that's great and looking at the socket area it certainly looks clean. So I'm not sure who this board is aimed at.
-
Just seen this on techpowerup
(http://www.techpowerup.com/img/11-01-07/57a.jpg)
Damn, I'm confused now. Let me get this right now, the G1 mobos with the green slots are for gamers and the other line of mobos with orange slots which name I don't know yet are for overclockers, and all are x58?. Someone please shed some light before I go crazy :P :-X
-
Yeah! I love the look of that orange, but I would have to stick with black or blue, seeing as my case has blue LED fans and such :P
I will be working hard over summer so I can buy me some of that LGA 2011 goodness when it arrives! I hope they have the same look as the SB boards!

You might find that you will be needing a bigger case also :o
-
I hope not :'(
My antec 1200 is pretty large, any weighs almost 5 stone! Any larger and it will collapse in on itself and form a black hole :o
If I run out of room I may consider one of those loops in a tiny case builds though!

Antec 1200 ....not nearly large enough! I was thinking of converting a van or something :o
-
I've got no worries about m/b size as I don't use a case, I've got a benching table ;D
-
Yes makes life a lot easier especailly if you change components etc fairly often. I am just trying to get one sorted out now for reviews and testing.
-
Yeah a van would be awesome! 120mm case fans? Try 2m!
-

How about a few 240cfm deltas 8) just mind your fingers or they'll get bitten off ;D
-
What do you guys think will be the best ram setup for these boards?
-
Any good quality memory like Mushkin, Corsair, Crucial, etc. Specifically any memory that is compatible with the X58 boards should be ok.
-
more to the point when is there going to be a AM3 motherboard for the new AMD bulldozer X8 that will do both sli or xfire
http://lensfire.blogspot.com/2010/11/amd-bulldozer-processor-release-date.html ;D
-

For performance, do you think its better to go with DDR3 2200 @ a max of 4 gigs in dual channel or DDR3 1600 in triple channel with a 6 or 12 gig kit? I want to build a beastly gaming PC with this mobo.
-
The thing is right at the moment if you want to use the latest platform then you only have the Dual Channel DDR3 option. This is with Sandy Bridge on the 1155 socket but shortly there is another socket coming out 2011 which it is supposed will support Triple Channel or even more.
At the moment there is not much to choose between the Triple Channel X58 boards and the Dual Channel P67 boards as far as performance goes. However I don't think it will remain this way for long.
To be honest 6GB is more than enough for a gaming PC. The only things that warrant more really are the rendering programs and video transcription programs, etc.
-
Man I can't wait for this board!!! Give a count down or something Gigabyte :)
Came across this vid for hyperx memory used with the assassin board and a 990x.

:o
EDIT: Just read this on Gigabyte tech blog "Remarkably the first G1.Assassin motherboards ship from Taiwan this very week"
got my answer
-
Yes it will be interesting to see how this differs in performance from the prevoius boards.
-
Just seen the price of this board :o
-
Yes they don't exactly come into the "Economy" sector do they! :o
-
I'm seeing conflicting memory support on this board
Will it support DDR3 1600 or not?
Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

Wonder how much the x58-oc boards will be. I like the preliminary results from hicookie.
-
Will it support DDR3 1600 or not?
Of course it will.

Yes they are not a cheap solution. But as with anything you get what you pay for. ;)
-
Ordered mine today!
-
Nice, which model? I am envious! 8)
-
I got the assassin to go along with a 990x and 3 580 GTX SLI

That's the trouble with you Yanks...too much money! Definitely envious now!! ;)
